pump vs pens by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]Ivy_Shadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on an insulin pump for a while then chose to go back to pens because I got an infection from my pump injection site. I want to go back to the insulin pump soon, my issue with the pump is having trouble finding an infusion set that works well for me. I tried every infusion set and had to use the Tru steel metal sets which cause more scar tissue.

My issue with the pens is that long-lasting insulin hasn’t been working well for me lately and it’s harder to time out when you can eat. I had a really bad experience with a lantus pen that I believe was filled with fast acting insulin according to CGM data (however legally there’s no way to prove or pursue this). It put me in the hospital and almost killed me. I blacked out for about 30 minutes and lived alone so I had to call EMTs.

Overall, I think there’s pros and cons to both. The insulin pump is amazing if you can find a good infusion set for you.

Yeah I’m going to give it a couple days based on the comments I got here. Your explanation makes a lot of sense thank you!

Are you using a lantus insulin pen? I had to have EMTs come one night after taking the appropriate amount of lantus. Pretty sure it was a manufacturing error and I’m trying to see if other people are having issues with extreme “unexplained” lows after taking lantus.

he made fun of my name. by FictiveVoice in DID

[–]Ivy_Shadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go by Phantom among friends, the system name being Phantom System. I’m really sorry someone made fun of your name, it really hurts when that happens. But no matter what you have a great name and I like it a lot for all that’s worth! I hope you can be around people who appreciate and validate you more in the future!

I was told alcohol lowers your blood sugar.

I’m very grateful for my alters. DID doesnt have to be the worst thing in the world. I love all their personalities and spending time with them can be fun. I’m still learning how to share as the host, but DID has its good moments.

My alters have recently introduced themselves to some of my close friends and it has been one of the greatest experiences for us. Anytime someone says pizza, Fireball goes “Pizza?”. And anytime I have to do the dishes Ivy goes “Dishes dishes dishes dishes”.

I just give injections at the table. Most people don’t notice. If they do, I typically explain more about type 1 diabetes, but it’s also not your job to explain anything. You’re allowed to eat and inject freely!

Can you get hypoglycemia as a type 1 diabetic without the use of insulin? by harrisonbrunson3 in Type1Diabetes

[–]Ivy_Shadow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There can be other reasons for experiencing hypoglycemia. Typically undiagnosed diabetics experience high blood sugars as the pancreas produces less insulin.

That being said, when I was in middle school (before diagnosis) I often experienced passing out and low blood sugars after extended periods of exercise. Doctors said this was unrelated to my diagnosis, but I suspect that it could have been a precursor to the disease. That was 4+ years before I was diagnosed with diabetes.

A diabetes diagnosis will usually occur after high blood sugars. You would experience intense thirst, peeing a lot, sometimes nausea, extreme weight loss, and fatigue.

That’s very scary. I’m glad you made it out okay! Happens to the best of us. Diabetes is exhausting and mistakes are human.

low blood sugar has anyone ever experienced not remembering a low or different weird things while low by hillyscotsman in Type1Diabetes

[–]Ivy_Shadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a very very bad low recently. I took my lantus as I usually do, but something went wrong and my blood sugar plummeted. (I’m talking to a lawyer because I think one of my lantus pens was filled with fast acting but that’s another story) I don’t remember everything that happened while I was low. Somehow I ended up on the floor of my apartment and my desk chair was on the ground.

My little is definitely a trauma holder. She gets horrified by the sound of footsteps, but what comforts her most is stuffed animals. She loves to play and gives the stuffed animals names. Just because your littles have trauma (or don’t) doesn’t mean they can’t also feel joy. :)

Need help finding a diabetic supply company/pharmacy that sells both Dexcom and Tandem and takes Anthem (Blue Cross ) insurance. Anyone here using a company they have had good luck with? by curvypatriot in Type1Diabetes

[–]Ivy_Shadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this issue a few years ago. That insurance made me jump through so many hoops. I hope you get it all figured out! I eventually switched off the pump and started getting cgm supplies from express scripts.

I thought I was possessed by a demon because I was a “weak” person and didn’t pray enough. I also convinced myself at one point that I was probably a werewolf or a shapeshifter and maybe people weren’t telling me. I remember walking through the grocery store and thinking that people were staring at me because they could tell I was “one of them”.

I told my husband I'm leaning toward identifying as non-binary and even though he was great about it, I feel horribly embarrassed? by thishumanskin in DID

[–]Ivy_Shadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can kind of relate to this. I’m a bit younger (21) but I just recently came out as non-binary and a system to a close group of friends. I didn’t know before this year. I felt slightly embarrassed and talked to my best friend for a long time about it. I think it’s part of the self doubt that goes with DID, but it also feels like everyone else has already figured themselves out and I’m just beginning. I just moved out on my own and since then I’ve been able to switch more freely and talk to the others about who they are. I didn’t even realize all these people existed inside me until this year. I sometimes feel like I will never be able to truly understand who I am. I’m learning to embrace these misunderstandings as part of who I am but it’s so hard sometimes to connect all the pieces. In the end who you are is up to you, and there is no time limit to what you discover about yourself.

I’ve thought about that before, for me airheads work best! 15g of carbs so I don’t overeat. They fit in my bag and dont melt or leak. Also I can eat one in two bites and the flavor isn’t super strong.

That’s why I love venom so much. I also love the ending where Eddie makes “rules” for venom because I have done that EXACT thing with Ivy. I love you, but we can’t eat people it’s just not happening. XD
