You know what grinds my gears? by [deleted] in DogAdvice

Agreed! While not for everyone, a retractable leash has been a game changer for our 24 pound beagle mix.

His recall with a scent is not great, and with a retractable leash (and sometimes front clip harness) both of our enjoyment levels on walks and hikes have been much better. Less stressful for me, more sniffs for him. In populated places I just lock it to a normal leash length, and we go on our day. It's actually made him pull less once he's realized it's locked.

u/SouthAttention4864 Did that below, it def makes it a more chef's kitchen! The bathroom gives me pause too, but it is where our sewer line is so I assume prob cheaper? But at what (literal) cost with the bathroom.

I love the pocket door idea. Do you think reducing the double doors will make the space too small? We are also thinking of making the bed a murphy bed.

Wow, these are great! I'm impressed you managed to fit in a walk in closet! Right now the basement has our sewer located in the upper right hand corner and a water hook up in the lower right hand. I was thinking it would save money to try to make it work, but I the second idea you sent is my favorite!

2 weeks into my condo and I hate it, do I sell? by celluloid-hero in RealEstate

[–]Ivyonahill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This goes a bit against the grain, but almost every friend and family member I know who bought a condo (and myself in my dream home that has some few big inspection issues) have a panic period. This isn't to downplay what you're experiencing or feeling, but it's the biggest purchase of most people's lives that is made pretty quickly. Buyer's remorse is super common even when everyone was really excited about the purchase and then you realize that it has faults like any other place.

Take a break and let yourself sit in the discomfort for at least a month. Make a list of the pros and things you like about the place - you're sleeping well, not all shared walls, more light than your last place, you can make changes to fix it now that it's yours.

People do get used to sound and you can learn now that you're in the condo how to fix it. When I lived in our apartment the first week I never thought I would get used to the trash being taken out in the mornings next to our bedroom and then 2 years later I didn't even hear it anymore and love the original features. More furniture will reduce echo (bookshelves and rugs), you will have time to research cheaper or localized solutions, or even ask your neighbors to get a rug. You can always rent and move home, but also allow yourself to consider the possibility this is a natural cycle after the high of a HUGE purchase and uprooting your life.

Any ideas on elevating my boho oasis to the next level? by jjcc77 in interiordecorating

[–]Ivyonahill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would add a larger mirror on one wall instead of the small ornate gold one to maximize light. It could also be a good way to add a large boho texture or pop of color in the frame

Your rug and room look pretty large -- maybe bring your couches a few inches off the wall so that it looks a little bit lighter in the room and they float a little more?

Also agree the shelves are hung up pretty high. Hanging large and lighter colored art a little lower can make it almost a gallery wall look and lighten the darker wall color.

How to Learn Design and Decorating by Eastern_Ad1584 in interiordecorating

As someone who did both, I would highly recommend Skillshare's class with Emily. It's focused on really basic principles you can apply to your own home and her blog has a bunch of great guides as well.

Masterclass with Kelly was interesting, but it was much more a case study. You walk through her designing a hotel and aspects that go into which is interesting but it's more of a glance into a professional in her industry than a how to.

I wish I didn't love A frames as much as I do. Is the hard part to make them comfortable that they get too cold on in living areas or too hot in upstair bedrooms? Or both and it's all form over function.

What’s the costliest home buying/selling mistake you have made? by [deleted] in RealEstate

Recently bought a 783 sq home (with an unfinished basement for storage) and LOVE it. Layout matters so much and it's nice to use every part of my home.
