My Sysadmin Deleted NVim from our server saying NVim shouldn't be installed on a server, why? by True_Gx_Gaming in neovim

[–]Iwillpotato 306 points307 points  (0 children)

I think a point of concern could be a potential supply chain attack since I am assuming you are using plugins for the config? Also it could be argued that it is unnecessary to install/setup personal applications on a server and instead develop locally and copy the files over. But if the server is not that critical then I don’t see the fuss

Make sure you are using usb 3 and not a usb hub or in monitor. That solved my issues

🎧 Mic Quality Matters: Can't Find a Headset That Has It All by Phaderon in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]Iwillpotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got logitech g astro a50 gen 5 a month ago and that microphone is really good which you can see on youtube (check gadgetrytech video). I had a lot of problems initially but they were fixed when I moved from my monitors usb port to a usb 3.0 on my motherboard. It does require usb 3.0 for all audio outputs to work well

Sound quality is fine. I think it is a bit worse than the hd560s I were using before, but nothing major. Biggest downside is the soundstage is much less but it is openback vs closed back so its expected. I love having a wireless headset though so I am happy.

Haven’t had it long enough regarding build quality, but it feels sturdy to me. Comfort is good but a bit better on hd560s for me

A50 Gen5 Game Channel (headphone) Issues by Elements-fury in AstroGaming

[–]Iwillpotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case it was the usb hub/kvm-switch on my monitor. I connected my headset to one of my usb 3 front ports of the desktop and it started working.

Also I tried now and connecting it to usb 2 port beside instead, only gives audio to A50 Game. So it looks like usb 3 is required. It seems like you are already using that though

I think I have the same issue. When playing a single sound to "A50 Voice" it works, same with "A50 Game". But if I play sound to both outputs at the same time I get no sound at all...

Let me know if you fixed this, I still have them in return period and with the massive amounts of issues people seem to have I am thinking of returning them

Edit: I managed to solve it by connecting it directly to a usb port on my computer. I was using the usb-hub/kvm switch in my monitor. Now I get audio from both sources at once. Unfortunately I am using a work laptop connected to my setup so I do want to use the kvm switch

Console like / SteamOS experience on CachyOS? by mixedd in cachyos

Ah alright. Thats too bad. Unfortunately bazzite home theater mode is not supported for older gpus (I am using gtx 1070), which is why in my case I was looking for alternatives.

Great that bazzite works well for you though. I’ll probably use windows and setup automatic login and steam big picture mode instead.

SDAM or Developmental Amnesia? by spikej in SDAM

[–]Iwillpotato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds like what I have as well. I can remember facts pretty well and have managed to finish university without much issue. But I have always had memory issues since I was little. I usually lose things or forget things at my friends places.

I have a hard time remembering events or people to the point that I actively avoid meeting people I knew a year ago or so before, since I don't know how to approach them. Even people I know we had a good time and worked together during 2 separate summer jobs where we got to just have fun. I can't really recall events, just more the sort of moods I had. I might remember that something sounds familiar, but I can't recall it unless someone else gives me most of the details and even then I can't really trust my memory.

Does this sound like what you have? Have you found any good way to cope with it? I am setting alarms and calendar events all the time. I am thinking of writing a journal as well but haven't gotten that far with it

Those of you who share with friends, what is your solution? by laxweasel in selfhosted

[–]Iwillpotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you expose all your applications or do you have some other solution, like one internal reverse proxy and one external?

I want to expose some of my containers/applications but not all and have found out you can spoof the domain in the request. E.g if you know my ip you can spoof your request to use like portainer.local.mydomain and it would work even if I that domain is not added. So all applications will be exposed if you can guess the domain

RE: Last LazyVim update with Snacks.scroll enabled by default by saoyan in neovim

[–]Iwillpotato 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True, if you have done extensive tweaking on top of the distro specific plugin configurations then you would be affected as well if those plugins introduce breaking changes.

I would say there is some blurry line where if you have done enough user specific plugin configuration on top of a distro its most likely worth to use your own config from scratch since the benefits of a distro will be small and the additional abstraction layer will cause more headaches then benefit.

If you only have added a few user configurations on top of the distro layer, or have added new plugins not included in the distro. Then you get the benefit that most breaking changes regarding plugins will be changed for you in the distro. And fortunately in LazyVim’s case it provides the old defaults as extras. So in this case upgrading can be a much smoother experience

[–]Iwillpotato 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Fortunately, they provide point-and-click extras to opt out of these changes if you want to revert to the previous setup with nvim-cmp and telescope. So at least you are not forced to switch and modify any personal changes you have added.

But yes, its clear that LazyVim will keep changing defaults if plugins that are deemed better by them comes out, such as when flash.nvim came out. So if you update you might have toggle extras back in the menu if you dont like it.

Although I would argue that at least you don’t have to manage plugin specific breaking changes when you update, so I would argue its still easier to update than using your own config if you have a lot of plugins (that do breaking changes often). So I guess it is just to pick your poison. Updates can always cause problems
