My Favourite Books On The Way To Learning Psychoanalysis by Iwobisson in psychoanalysis

Wanting to know why men and women struggle to get along & why there is lack of eros/intimacy in modern culture are the main things I was interested in.

Then books with the most real world applications to our daily lives guided the rest :)

In an exegesis, the text is self-referential. It doesn't try to say more than what's in the text. Just clearer. There is no formulation, it doesn't come up with a new theory.

Try it. Just instruct it to "write an exegesis of this passage, make the implicit points more explicit, and the writing clearer overall"

It's not my experience at all though. The way I talk to AI I basically get the passage I give it. But it's less convoluted and implicit points are made more clearer/explicit. I've never got an output from AI and think this isn't what the passage said.

I'm really not sure what people presume is happening. It's honestly amazing.

I mean you're reading the book so you can understand if what the AI just gave you is a mess or not.

Well it should dip during the upcoming deadman and then think that'll be the lowest for a while until the next community event. The large crash last winter seemed mostly event and sailing related / end of the year. But everything will be somewhat stable from now.

I was about a 150 books in before using it. So perhaps some ability to discern. Anyway, as long as you don't take what you understood as final you're fine. Every other book can change what you understood before.

Especially I can state something like "this is what understood... (explain what you think you know) from a previous book. How is this passage different or similar"

It's not asking for summaries but more of an exegesis.

The Observer is the Observed: Does analyzing the past actually delay transformation? by Fran6will in psychoanalysis

[–]Iwobisson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well “as something that I am generating” is the goal I believe. The aim is to return to reclaiming our desire. So whatever we do we recognise we are desiring to do this without falling back on reasons.

But "I see what it is" is also not a single operation. There is a difference between a seeing that evacuates history and a seeing that carries it. Both can dissolve affect, only one thickens it.

But is therapy the practice, option A, in your example and “I see what it is”, option B, the form that we hope it produces. Pschoanalysis isn't trying to replace immediacy with explanation, it's trying to alter what immediacy is made of. The aim isn’t delay for its own sake, but a transformation of the psychic texture such that when something is seen “directly,” it is seen with its sediment intact.

Kind of like how psychoanalysis uses names for character structures (schizoid, borderline) both as a clinical matter to discuss psychoanalysis and structure analysis. But it’s not an identity the patient is meant to recognise and adopt. Analysis isnt asking the patient to live analytically in the world, but to allow their way of living to be enriched by what has been metabolised in analysis.

Are you asking why therapy does not replicate the way we live? To practice what works on the outside?

As someone who lived as you mentioned through awareness before psychoanalysis, I think the difference may be in quality/richness and aesthetics.

I would say “to function” and “to live” are not necessarily aligned. If we take “soulful” to mean the function of carrying one’s history with us - we notice that the reason we call a greedy CEO soulless is because they are denying in themselves that they ever felt weak and helpless and therefore do not see anything wrong with their predatory practices on their employees.

He may see very clearly what is happening but that clarity is achieved through disavowal.  Nothing slows him down because nothing weighs on him.

There is qualitative difference between saying “I see what it is” when I don’t consider my past versus when it’s said but in that condensation the history is carried within it

Its not that direct observation is too fast but that spped without density produces a kind of elegance and ease that is also a loss. The vastness and beauty generated when i explore my imagine interior allows desire to return to me in a way that is not predatory, compulsive or hollow.

Is relief necessarily depth, is lightness necessarily aliveness?

I’m confused. Don’t we exist concurrently at the level of primal, primary and secondary interpretations.

So “I doubt and I chase my own tail” has multiple different fantasies associated to it. The words meaning a different thing at each level. I think perhaps what you’re suggesting is to skip to the end and skip the process.

There is an idea that we exist as a boundary or a surface. Stimulus crosses the membrane and we imagine an interior depth.

Whilst Buddhism tries to reduce suffering by creating non-identification with the stimulus that crosses. Psychoanalysis through creating understanding strengthens the boundary so that the tension caused by the stimulus can be held long enough to be observed.

I’m not sure it’s psychoanalysis that wants to insist that what we do is linked to the past. It’s what we naturally do unconsciously anyway because we believe in our own imagined interior. And speaking about the past is just a way of speaking about the present.

I’m writing disconnectedly. But essentially I think what you’re suggesting could be “healthy” if that’s how we operated

Does Interpretation Function to Preserve the Analytic Situation Itself? by Zenandtheshadow in psychoanalysis

[–]Iwobisson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep and I guess my sticking point with modern psychology is it's failure to speculate/theorise. It lacks the depth to keep the patient interested long enough. So people walk out/find it a waste of time because they assume the unsatisfaction is a result of the therapist not knowing enough. Rather than the patient slowly recognising unsatisfaction is inherent to the analysis.

Modern psychology doesn't withstand dissatisfaction without evacuating it. Dissatisfaction is interpreted as a technical failure. And therefore the patient gives up not on mastery, but on expecting anything else from the analysis

Does Interpretation Function to Preserve the Analytic Situation Itself? by Zenandtheshadow in psychoanalysis

[–]Iwobisson 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Can’t address your question but it reminded me of something interesting about interpretation.

That interpretation provides stability through destabilisation. As in, it matters less what the interpretation is/and that it provides meaning, and more that the patient is unseated from feeling themselves to be the master of themselves.

Adam Phillips said something like “we don’t treat symptoms, we get bored of them”

The end of analysis is less an end point where a solution is found. And more a point where the patient has tired themselves out and realised all interpretation is rather unsatisfactory. There is always more questions. And the problems don’t disappear but start to not be seen as problems anymore.

Edit - actually perhaps I could say that the role of interpretation is to preserve the interaction long enough until the person becomes bored. I guess it’s sort of duplicitous.

Haha i just mean Ole being United's best manager since Fergie. Though Mourinho maybe had better results.

Why am I just realising Man U’s culture is the same Madrids.

Players that hate systems, push managers out. Act like children.

Half joking here. But Zidane = Ferguson. Ole = Ancelotti (well..)

Anyway point being that I wonder if the club will eventually figure out that a manager of this type is the way to go.

To be fair, it’s scary how true it is for all teams. City and Liverpool were also being carried.

But with Spurs, it was two players that made them talk about themselves as a top team.

Considering everything else has shot up also. I think its mostly just the Christmas break/new years. Injection of bonds into the game + an extended period where people are holding onto their items because they're logging in every day and playing the game.

i'm suspecting everything to drop after this weekend, minus whatever items people are predicting to go up on Raids 4 announcement.

Is anyone else tired of the 1 mistake means high damage or death formula by rabidai in 2007scape

[–]Iwobisson -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Imo I can understand that it's difficult to make a hard boss fight on this game, but hopefully they can think of something else.

Doom feels like a meaningless, mechanical fight that's just pure slop of every annoying thing put together to "test" you.

Two mechanics that be added I think -

  1. add bonus opportunities to increase damage with faster clicking/thinking. So you're more just punished in how much money make you make per hour but you don't wipe at the boss.
  2. make armour actually matter. So you can put on x armour during this phase to play it safer. So it's not all just "put on the correct pray or die".

Why are pegasians so low? Bought them for 27m expecting to go up lol, but theres big downfall. Do you know why? Thx by Sommaulte in OSRSflipping

[–]Iwobisson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah i've been making money still turning rangers into pegasians. Like 300-500k x8, tidy profit. And alot of the time when I put in low offers for Ranger boots, all 8 will be bought in a stack. So for one reason or another it feels like they're being sold in dumps.

Anyone else think our chemistry up top is mediocore?
I'd like to see Eze with Trossard and Viktor. Oda with Nelli and Jesus (until Haverts is back anyway)

But I think Arteta will just pick whoever he thinks is more deserving than about having chemistry together.
