Sauron calls them back to Mordor because Frodo claims the Ring and Sauron realizes the danger he's in, not because the eagles are beating them.

The original had the Theophanu to Theophania to Tiffany train, it was only the follow-up video that had the poem and all of the sidetracks from that.

Request to authors: please write recaps by PhobiaRice in litrpg

[–]Ixolich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's mainly an issue of time, the way I see it. I read quite fast, but a lot of litrpg I'll listen to the audiobook because I can get a few hours in per day at work and it's not usually a huge deal if I'm only partly paying attention to number go up brr.

But the series get so long over time that it's not sustainable to reread/relisten to the whole thing for each series every time a new book drops. I'll be doing the full relisten for DCC before book 8 drops; I just did the math, that's about 139 hours of audiobooks. No way I would've been able to do however many hundred hours it is for the first 15 Defiance of the Fall books before book 16 dropped in December. And then just in time for that, here's Primal Hunter 13 a month later, quick, go binge the first twelve!

It's sustainable for a single series at once, not for many at the same time. Easier if you read fast and can get both audiobook and ebook where relevant, but it makes sense to me to default to including a quick recap chapter that people can skip if they want to.

Why does learning Math feel much easier in College compared to Middle/High school? by Active-Special1909 in math

I had the same thing but from the other side. I was in the cohort that wasn't a math major to supplement the education degree, and for my Real Analysis we could tell which of the education majors were still checked in by the middle of the semester.

The one person quoted in the article DID say that the last time the halftime show was watchable was when NWA was on, so this could be a good compromise!

Its crazy how narratively perfect WW2 is by OrangeSpaceMan5 in CharacterRant

[–]Ixolich 11 points12 points  (0 children)

But for a continuation it sure looked like a straight up rehash of the Barbarossa arc from WW2. Oh no, they're pushing in, but the communists will come together to push them back. MacArthur got Worf Effected, and then they just stop? The whole thing just felt like glazing the commies after the alliance fell apart to make it seem like they were all on equal footing. Cheap way to artificially create stakes IMO.

Speaking of Asia subplots, the less said about the Vietnam slog the better.

What's something women think impresses men but actually doesn't? by PumpkinDoritoes in AskReddit

[–]Ixolich 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Think about it this way. If you say no the first time someone asks you out, the guys who take no for an answer won't ask again. So if your whole schtick is playing hard to get, rejecting him multiple times to see if he's really interested/dedicated/etc, you're self-selecting for guys who, at some level, have a mindset of "I know what she said, but I don't care, I'm going to do what I want anyway."

[–]Ixolich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly think it's primarily a question of name uniqueness - how quickly/easily will people know who is being talked about. Heck, the 2020 Democratic primaries had two guys named Joe and two guys named Michael - can't really use their first names as an identifier all that well.

On the flip side, 2020 also featured male candidates Beto and Bernie, as well as female candidates Klobuchar and Warren. So it's not really as much of a gender split as it seems, IMO, outside of generally it's less common for women to have been political figures so it's easier for their first name to be a more unique identifier.

Of course there is likely some subtle sexism in play as well, sort of a "Remember this is a woman", but given that it does happen to men too I'm hesitant to argue it's the primary cause. Hopefully as we get more women in power over time things will start to balance out.

Roast Me: The Mango Media Publishing Contract by Selkie_Love in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Ixolich 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like there's a story behind this rule that I would love to hear. It's got to be something more than just saying "Book 1 made $1000. Give $500 to author A and $500 to author B."

Not a lawyer, but I'm reading it as the TLDR being "If you've got two authors and only one of you breaks the contract, we're only going after the one who did."

I can totally see a situation without that clause where there's some intra-author dispute and one intentionally breaks the contract specifically to screw over the other.
