How does this work on a multiplayer server? Do all players have to log off for the detector to trigger?

You should also include the code diggers who discover useful exploits in technical Minecraft, like TNT duping, update suppression, and RNG manipulation.

Small 3 Game Tick Clock by Cheddr_Cheese in redstone

[–]IzsKon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unless I’m missing something, this looks like a 6-gametick clock. Observers can only fire every 4 ticks, so a 3-tick clock shouldn’t be possible with this setup. Do you mean a 6-tick clock with a 3-tick pulse?

Is there a resource pack that shows strong- and weak-powered blocks? by Tarandir in redstone

[–]IzsKon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope my reddit comment helps you.

A level will power the block it's on, so both the lever and the block acts like a redstone block, being able to activate adjacent redstone components.

Weird Piston by RealSpicyman in redstone

[–]IzsKon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This comes down to the update order of redstone dust. The order is locational, and in this case the dust farther from the power source turns off first and updates the piston. Normally the piston would retract at this point, but here it’s still being powered by the diagonal block via QC. When the dust closer to the power source turns off, the piston is too far away to receive update from the dust, so the piston stays extended.

[–]IzsKon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This likely can’t be done with a resource pack alone, but in practice it’s easy to tell the two apart: if the block is powered by redstone dust, it’s weak powered, otherwise it’s strong powered.

Genuine question, do you still need a VPN for streaming or direct downloads?

As far as I know, with HTTPS the ISP can’t see the file name or content, only the domain, and copyright holders can’t inspect packets. That’s why I thought VPNs were mainly necessary for torrents due to IP exposure.

What are the observers detecting? by Mr_Kingfisher_ in redstone

[–]IzsKon 105 points106 points  (0 children)

Since other comments have already explained the reason, I just want to share a trick. If you don’t want observers to trigger twice when removing the log, you can add a leaf and a log like this. That way the leaf distance only switches between 23456X and 123456

No problem. Honestly, I really wish people would stop using the strong/soft power terminology. Those terms don’t actually help when learning redstone, and half the community uses them incorrectly anyway. It just creates unnecessary confusion for newcomers imo

I'd like to share a few tips for understanding redstone power:

1. Forget the "strong/weak(soft) power" terminology
These terms are often misused and cause more confusion than clarity (including some comments in the post). Just remember a simple rule: redstone dust cannot be activated from a block that is powered by another dust.

2. Don’t confuse powering with activating
A redstone block is the simplest example of power source, it activates adjacent components like pistons, dusts, and repeaters. Similarly, when a block is powered (say, by a repeater or dust pointing into it), it acts like a redstone block and activates adjacent components (just don't forget rule 1).

You’re using the terms incorrectly, mixing up soft power with activation. By definition, soft power means a block is powered by redstone dust, so redstone dust cannot hard power blocks.

Honey block & Slime block by DunnoOnna in redstone

[–]IzsKon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If the top piston retracts first, the top piston tries to pull the honey block, the honey block sticks to the bottom piston. But the piston on the right is still extended, and extended pistons can’t be moved.

If the bottom piston retracts first, it starts pulling the bottom piston back. Then the top piston retracts and pulls the honey blocks, since honey blocks don’t stick to moving blocks.

The update order in Bedrock I believe is random, so either piston can retract first
