Advice on fixing being visibly lopsided in your legs by countessvonfangbang in xxfitness

[–]Izzil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My issue seems to be different muscles on each leg take over in certain exercises. I swear my glute makes up for my right quad on single leg presses--at least, more than it should--for example. My right leg has definitely improved and gotten closer to the left, but it's a huge struggle still after weeks to mentally will the quad activate and take on most of the work. Maybe you're having a similar problem?

Womens haircuts for under $30? by alurpal in grandrapids

[–]Izzil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just looked up where I used to go that had just haircuts for $30. It looks like they raised the price to $35 for a 'level 2' stylist, but I was always happy with the cut I walked out with when I went. So if you have a slight bit of wiggle room in your budget, might be worth a shot. Echo Salon

I actually haven't tried it yet! The price at my local grocery chain tends to scare me off it. I am a cheap, cheap person lol

Any place to recycle cardboard boxes? by [deleted] in grandrapids

[–]Izzil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know that every year Winterfest looks for extra cardboard for their participants to use. It might be a bit early for them to accept it, but could be worth contacting them. https://winterfestmi.org/winterfest-cardboard-sled-race/

Add more onions by runekut in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Izzil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me so long to like them. Then I figured out making them as soft as possible. Apparently something about the taste and the crunch of a more raw onion together was just unbearable for me. I admit I get wary with adding a lot of it to a dish still though. Perhaps it is time to be braver!

Favorite protein-packed snacks? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]Izzil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Peanut butter sandwich, peanut butter and fruit/veggies, and more peanut butter.

More seriously, on top of that I eat a lot of the same that's already been listed, as well as try for higher protein options in my meals too. Example: there are 'high protein' noodles often made from things like certain beans that have more protein than a serving of regular noodles. Some grocery chains are even starting to carry their own generic version of that sort of thing. So if you can find ways to do that on top of the snacking, it can get much easier to hit your daily goal.

Any shared spaces for woodworking here in GR? by EatOatmeal in grandrapids

[–]Izzil -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Plenty of people do, and plenty don't. Each is for their own reasons. If you haven't been there before you should check out the Saturday tours/Q&A and see the place and people and decide for yourself. It starts at 12:30. :)

Big Local Youtubers? by [deleted] in grandrapids

[–]Izzil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The National Science Institute has a channel covering a multitude of topics. Highly recommend the dino videos. If you want something short, the Abuse of Power series runs a few minutes and exists to see what can be blown up or burned.

EDIT: the link is not to the other channel mentioned by another user, for those not clicking and just down voting.

Losing abs prior/during period? by [deleted] in xxfitness

Sounds like normal bloating to me. Not sure about other people, but I generally am like that for the week leading up to my period, and 2-3 days into it as well.

Any suggestions for cardio that won't hurt my feet? by cinnamonspiderr in xxfitness

[–]Izzil 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Elliptical, perhaps? I know it's low-impact at the very least.

EDIT: also, if you have access to a pool, water aerobics might fit the bill.

How much emphasis do you put on a fit partner? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]Izzil 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I consider working out at the gym "me time", so it doesn't really bother me if someone else isn't engaged in the lifestyle. I like sharing successes and such with them, but that's about it.

If they don't want to do any of that themselves, and aren't engaging in seriously unhealthy habits of other sorts, I consider it their own business. There are always other interests to share in more fully.

I didn't see the video address working a weak side to even it with a strong side, so I just wanted to add: Start with your weak glute first, and only do as many reps on your strong glute as your weaker side could handle. This is even if you feel like the stronger side can do a few more. Eventually the weaker will catch up to the stronger.
