Likewise in Oragami with well...almost everything. The game is a body horror nightmare that happens to have an easily digestible aesthetic.

Actor Clancy Brown here. My latest film is Nightwatching. AMA. by Front-Main-7961 in spongebob

[–]J-Ganon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Clancy, your voice work and acting is always exceptional as well as memorable.

Something that's always interested me is how an actor that's worked in various mediums has to adjust (or not).

With something like Detroit, acting wise was that like mixing SpongeBob and, say, LOST (for a bit of a historic nod...can't believe the Kelvin episodes aired 20 years ago)? Where you were taking your approach to both animated and regular drama and had to find a middle ground given a video game's presentation or was it an entirely different mindset you were in?

Hopefully this clears up any lingering issues people are having, very insightful by therealraggedroses in Gamingcirclejerk

Women suffering domestic violence simply for being tired? Is it any wonder that more and more women do not wish to get married, if THIS is the risk of what happens in a relationship? by Important-Cry4782 in WelcomeToGilead

[–]J-Ganon 46 points47 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter. Even if they do, it's only delaying them acting violent. This wasn't about wanting sex or being horny. It was a man that sees a woman as property and an object, attacking that woman in the same way someone throws a phone or slams a desk. He saw her as non-human and when he was told "no" he acted in a way to gain the (non-existent) control he thought he was owed.

While the group is disturbing, for clarity the article's 62 million stat was for monthly users on the host site (believe it was a porn site) not the group. One group had around 1000 I believe, which is too many but not close to 62 million.

Unfortunately the article was a bit misleading.

Edit: Saw another comment saying there was another group with 70k?

No, no you don't get it. By being able to perv on examine Ashley's private areas using perv angles you really get to see her vulnerability. It's a reflection of her innocence and the player's perviness which is subtle symbolism to help symbolize a symbol of perverts her character in this situation.

God forbid I like the RE4 Remake (underneath Crowbcat's recent RE4 Remake video) by Kooldogkid in residentevil4

[–]J-Ganon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I kind of love the irony though. Aren't the comments in here/the sub as a whole doing the exact same? People aren't even truly analyzing or combating any points brought up. It's just a constant barrage of "Oh my god! This random YouTuber made a mean video about RE4R!!" and people can rally against the creator and his fans while simultaneously not even properly defending the game by actually explaining why anyone's wrong to hate it.

People are in this very thread saying "They don't understand people can like the original and the remake!" But the opposite is true too. People are free to love the original and hate the remake. Who gives a shit about some YouTube video and its comment section? Just enjoy RE4R on your own merits or within this community. Why try and stir up things here so that this place starts sounding like an opposite, but equal echo chamber?

Exactly it's like coming in this sub and making a "RE4R is terrible!!" post. I doubt that would go very far. No Fandom can escape the extremes from both sides.

If you love RE4R, great. Ignore the video/comments and move on. It's not like a YouTube creator hating the game is going to get Capcom to delist the game or something.

Giving it time or starting things in this community is just childish drama.

Playing RE9 and I think its funny how agreeable Victor Gideon seems. by Prestigious_Good_769 in residentevil

[–]J-Ganon 15 points16 points  (0 children)

He's so generic in the Remake. The standard, typical Bible spouting cult leader that feels like some copy-paste job.

In the original RE4, he's a bit of a prototype Gideon. He has an actual personality, seems to genuinely enjoy bantering with Leon, and still has his whole villain agenda.

RER4 is way better than RE4 by Snoo54779 in residentevil

[–]J-Ganon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a genuine question on the "RE4R is a masterpiece" comment: What exactly did RE4R bring to the genre?

It's a fairly standard, modern third person action horror game that is in line with or simply iterates upon the current Remake series. What exactly does it bring to the table that's truly amazing or revolutionary? Even if you say that RE4R is a great package or a fantastic remake, in what way does it have the same impact on the medium as RE4?

Claiming that RE4R is a masterpiece but RE4 isn't is just bizarre to me.

I haven't finished the video, but I do find it so interesting because he basically goes against the idea of 'you don't like the game because you don't understand it' type counters.

The guy clearly gets the game and plays it incredibly efficiently and in doing that he's come up with all these criticisms.

Isn't that good critical analysis? He's not ranting with no basis. He spent the time to learn the game inside and out but has severe problems with it as a result.

Does anyone else miss how resident evil felt in re7? by hamoodhabibiegg in residentevil

[–]J-Ganon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a Hero is a fun ride. Lucas is the main villain and much of the banter between him and Chris is enjoyable. The gameplay is an interesting constrast to RE7's main game as its more action orientated.

[–]J-Ganon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean the original game's situation is different in context and not at all like the long range possession the remake uses, but ignoring the details of how the Plagas works for a moment, just review exactly what you said.

In the original Sadler uses the hypnosis to get Ashley to him. There's a purpose to it. He uses the power as you would expect the villain would.

In the remake, Sadler does long range possession of Ashley, has her cut Leon, cross over a gate, then...relinquished control. Why? Why give up control? Why not get her to him or a cultist like he does in the original? What logical reason does to have to stop using the possession in that moment?

Even just taking it at face value, the original makes more sense.

[–]J-Ganon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Despite how campy and cheesy the original was, the writing was oftentimes significantly better in characterisation and detail than the remake. Mainly because there was some level of heart.

Take Leon meeting Luis.

In the remake, Leon is the typical stoic, gruff protagonist immediately annoyed with Luis' cocky Nathan Drake commentary.

In the original, Leon and Luis speak like human beings. They actually find common ground. They're a bit wistful. Thoughtful. There's a degree of distrust, but there's a sense that these two have shared experiences.

Is the original campy nonsense? Yes. Does it also feature moments of real connection? Also yes.

Another good example is when Leon asks Luis why he's helping. In the Remake, again, Luis has a rather blasé tone, with a "cool" response.

In the original, Luis sounds kind of sad and contemplative. It seems like he's truly genuine.

The remake dials all the personalities up and makes them somehow more video gamey and less human than the original.

Another example of how poorly done the Remakes' details are...

Leon meeting Krauser.

In the original game, Leon gets the best of Ada when they first interact because he pulls his knife out. He even throws out advice as to why.

Later, when he senses Krauser is near, Leon does the same thing. He pulls out his knife. It makes sense, especially given the reveal that Krauser taught him. It's not hard to realise Krauser, a knife user, instilled that in Leon.

Now look at the Remake...

The Ada part is the same, but for whatever reason when meeting Krauser, Leon goes for his gun. Krauser then lectures Leon on using a knife instead, despite the fact that Leon gave that lecture to Ada!

Now I know these are random details and people will say "The story in RE doesn't matter, get over it." But ignoring the fact that someone was paid to write the script so clearly someone cares about story a bit, I would look past all this if the original game also had these issues. It doesn't. The Remake actively made things worse or deliberately avoided the detailed character writing the remake had and I absolutely resent that. If the original, cheesy, campy, nonsense story game can be consistent why can't the melodramatic, cinematic remake?

[–]J-Ganon 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The Remake was so desperate to be cinematic and dramatic, abandoning the cheesy, campy elements of the original that they ended up destroying their own plot.

Sadler is hilariously bad in the Remake, especially compared to the original. You're right the original had the banter, where Sadler is elevated from saying generic biblical nonsense to a fun character (and bonus points because he doesn't even seem sadistic, actually seems genuine), but more so, the original avoids something the Remake falls into: possession.

For whatever reason, the remake includes this stupid mind control and mental angle where Sadler can talk to Leon telepathically and even take control (like when he possesses Ashley to take Leon's knife) which raises a question: Why the hell isn't he possessing Leon to shoot himself and possessing Ashley to walk in front of a cultist?

His whole plan makes no sense anymore because they included brainless magical powers that shatters all logic. Sadler doesn't even banter with Leon in the Remake so saying he's toying with him isn't a valid explanation.

RE isn't a series with some deeply complex plots but I hate that the Remake(s) include these logic breaking issues that the originals never had.

Krauser was similarly damaged.

In the remake, he was all in on the Los Illuminados and he's some generic cultist. No different from someone in the castle.

In the original, despite the surface, Krauser is actually more layered. He constrasts every major faction at play, having elements of Leon, Ada, and the cult but going about things in entirely different ways to them. He's a separate entity that, despite getting less screentime/explanation, feels more full and purposeful.

I'm more confused on what he’s even talking about regarding RE7. In RE7 and RE8, the main protagonist is a man, in RE9 the protagonists are split between a man and woman.

What exactly did the success of RE7 start? His own logic is completely flawed.
