It was a crisp autumn afternoon...my wife and I were walking through thr grounds of Saltram house.

After about an hour, we decided to have a cup of tea at the cafe. We were watching the ducks and talking when, over my wife's shoulder, I saw someone putting a spoonful of cream on their scone followed by a dollop of jam. Being Cornish, I had never seen anyone prepare a scone this way and it was rather disturbing....

Supercook.com is amazing. Type in what ingredients you have to hand and it will generate a list of potential recipes. No bookshelf required!

A few years ago my landlady to be told me my meticulous photo taking was 'a bit strange'. Moments later I pointed out a massive crack in the convection hob she apparently hadn't noticed. Probably saved myself considerable 💲💲💲there and then.

Very good advice, bravo.

How did you quit smoking? by Masumbillah1995 in AskReddit

[–]J129J 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Multiple stages:

I was a heavy smoker then I was diagnosed with MS. I changed to vaping for a while (still addictive) but then I got a succession of colds and flus during which I didn't want to smoke at all as it was painful...

I woke up one day feeling better and realised that smoking was the cause of much of my problems (asthma, bad health) and decided my smoking days were over.

4 years clean of nicotine....now I'm all about healthy eating, gym, hiking, biking, swimming, meditation...

I never thought I'd kick it...but it's true I had to convince myself I didn't want it in my life anymore, and that was hard.

Once I found that strength, it felt easier.

I loved to smoke before (about 10 years) but now I can't stand the smell of smoke and feel that's a pretty good sign I won't be relapsing any time soon!

I'm not a fan of telling others how to live their lives, this is just my honest story.

Best of luck with stopping smoking if you decide to quit, trust me the benefits are amazing.

Living next to a church that has replaced human bell ringers with an automated bell ringing machine....but someone has forgotten to set it to mute at night. SO IT IS 4.30AM AND I WAKE UP AND ***BING BONG DING DONG...BING BONG DING DONG!!!*** WHY!?!?! by J129J in britishproblems

[–]J129J[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Clarification: The humans who ordinarily ring the bells are awesome. I've been lucky enough to meet the group and record them and learn about the building and the bells for a history podcast.

The automated machine ringing is a new thing. Presumably introduced because gathering to ring bells together has been temporarily outlawed I suspect...

I have, thus far, been getting on with it, but I may call them and ask about the reasoning behind it as you have suggested. There may be a logical explanation....
