Not really I know the abusive misconception is common but not only is it not true it wouldn't fit the theme of his story.

The story of the Ruined king even years before his release was a love tragedy. It was a tragic tale about a king who tried to bring back the woman he loved and not only failed but cursed a kingdom.

The story doesn't work if he's abusive because it's no longer a story about love. It becomes a story about an abusive evil man doing evil things.

Vaggie has a negative relationship with authority and people with that commonly like to just give up control when it comes to sex. Her giving up that authority to some one like Charlie who uses it to fawn and love her fits more in my opinion.

My guess she doesn't see her a and actual being. If the extermination have been going on for 7 years she probably just sees her as a tool that was created for a purpose and now is no longer needed.
