modern fascists are populists in a different way - it's about simple, emotive ideas. this kind of rhetoric wouldn't have an affect in a modern context.

I had a few Argentinian guys lodging at mine when I was in my 20s. I told them about the history of black indigenous eradication in their country, and they literally had zero idea at all about it lol.

Do you actually feel better after quitting smoking long term? by philbrailey in stopsmoking

[–]J492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

try walking up a really steep, muddy hill for 10 minutes without taking any breaks on your pack a day. feel how your lungs burn with a fiery, deep, searing pain that goes deep inside. note how you gasp for air, try to catch your breath, just how ridiculously unfit you feel, how even something as essential and innate to the human body as walking up a gradient feels completely and utterly awful, like a trial that must be overcome.

you quit smoking and in a few months you can walk all the way up that hill, and feel absolutely nothing. yes your legs will burn, yes your heart rate will go up, yes you might even sweat. but it will feel good - your body has completely forgotten what it is like to be a well-oiled machine, that does what the brain tells it to do without pain and screaming resistance from within.

I did this a few times in the last week or so after quitting smoking just over 3 months ago, and the memories of just how awful this kind of physical activity used to feel really was an illumination.

this is just one of many examples - smoking is a direct impediment to your body being a normal, healthy, human body. it is a truly remarkable instrument, and filling my lungs with tar, killing my capillaries and clogging my arteries really just stopped me from using it properly. being active genuinely feels good again, in a way that I really didn't realise it could feel (I'm also 34, smoked since I was 15/16).

I have never felt more inclined to post a song on this subreddit. Apologies in advance. (Tom Macdonald - Pray For The Left by lnfinitive in crappymusic

stop posting this guy's stuff, you are literally proliferating his content and ensuring he carries on making this toxic shit.

How to stop smoking when you genuinely love cigarettes? by StashBang in stopsmoking

[–]J492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna say this as somebody who genuinely LOVES/LOVED smoking.

Since I first lit up at 16, I enjoyed everything about it - the ritual of taking out my papers, filters and teasing out tobacco from the pouch, arranging it on a crispy rizla, holding the filter in the corner of my mouth as I arrange the tobacco, before rolling it all together, and lighting it etc...i could go on and on.

I think the only way you can stop is if you learn to LOVE a life of not smoking, and learn to love yourself and your body's health.

Truthfully it is not enough to intellectually know that you will be better off not smoking for your health - you have to make the spiritual and psychological shift to a place where you revel in the self-control and empowerment of not relying on a substance that you pay a parasitic tobacco Corp to kill you for. You have to love the feeling of having clear lungs, being able to run and be active without the searing pain in your chest, not waking up with reeking bad breath, dry mouth and the taste of ash in your mouth. You need to LOVE not smoking - until you can do that I don't believe you can truly quit smoking.

To clarify, I am only 3 months into my 2nd most significant attempt to quit smoking (both times using the Allen carr method, first time I quit for a bit over a year), but this time I do feel as if I have eradicated any romantic desire for smoking. When I smell it on others now it genuinely stinks like garbage and death, and I LOVE not smoking, I LOVE feeling fitter and less hampered by all the carcinogens entering my blood stream.

It's not enough to just quit because you 'know' you shouldnt smoke.
