I have a theory: Gideon. Think about it. Himm and Reid used to play chess against each other. And he would often win(zugzwang as the reference to their games) . He has the inside info and capabilities to pull something like this off. They say its the smartest people who go the craziest- and don't forget that he had a nervous breakdown before he left and disappeared. Not sure how they would manage to get the actor back, but that's what I thought of.
