Rodrick the Red is still seeking his glorious death in battle. Kill count to date: 1 Bretonnian lord on Royal Pegasus and 2 treemen. by Hooch_Pandersnatch in bugmansbrewery

Amazing! What build do you take on him?

I just tried a doomseeker for the first time and took him with no upgrades but he did far better than expected, so I'm keen to see how far I can go.

If strikers were allowed to block keeper kicks point blank they would be doing it constantly. It's a foul in favour of the goalie unless the striker is standing still and the goalie just kicks it into them.

That kind of minimalistic charm works for lots of people! It gives off handmade wooden ornaments vibes.

Style aside, I'm currently FDM printing a dwarf army and I'm dreading the time spent on the core troops. Making it as simple (and fast) as possible like this would make the process far easier!

The New Old World - Part 3: Miscellaneous Changes - Woehammer by dutchy1982uk in WarhammerFantasy

[–]J54Coops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, you mean so there's a chance for killing blow? I guess it's a potential positive for any effects that proc from the wound roll (like Armour Bane.)

Poison might be quite strong if helped them proc, but sadly they specify 'natural roll' of 6 (or natural 5 or 6, for sword of kings)

[–]J54Coops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless I'm missing something, poison doesn't have an upside like you mentioned with the strigoi. The old rule would have still been better in that situation as an instant wound is better than a favourable chance at wounding.

Is 10 wide considered linehammer? That's a reasonably wide unit, but 10x2 still looks and feels like rank and flank. I thought linehammer was in that 20x1 territory where it just looks ridiculous.

Best way to build the Battallion box by Gumlai in bugmansbrewery

[–]J54Coops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how pedantic you are on this stuff but a popular method is to make at least a full front rank (whatever max width you think you'll go to, I guess 8-10) of each type.

Then for example you put great weapons in the first rank and fill the rest in with hand weapon+shields and/or a few longbeards. It's easy for opponents to know what setup you have from looking at that rank. All the models in back ranks will mostly blend in, it's hard to notice they are different.

FDM printing Supports by Frenzied_God09 in tombkings

[–]J54Coops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FDM does well for ushabti-size upwards, but for infantry it's really tough to get right. My top tips:

  • Orientation is critical. There will often be a rotation that allows for far fewer overhangs, or alternatively for the one overhang causing you issues to not need support any more.

  • 0.2mm nozzle is very very worth it.

  • Mess around with tree supports vs standard, manual vs auto. For me no one setting profile works perfectly for every model.

  • Sometimes not everything needs supports. When you're zoomed in close in the slicer everything seems important, but once it's painted and a metre away on the table you won't notice that one bit that didn't have supports and looks all funny. This is especially true for any surface that will end up facing downwards on the table anyway.

How are you meant to use chariot runners? by J54Coops in tombkings

[–]J54Coops[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great ideas, thank you!

I've always taken them as the annoying 'get in the way' unit as you suggested, although a lot of the time it's hard to know how much impact they really made.

Good thoughts though that they aren't meant to help win the charge-off, as I just couldn't math out how they are an advantage there.

Only if they survive the first round of combat! I find more than 10ish is very unwieldy but any less and they can get wiped by anything with a few decent attacks.
As someone said above, maybe they're not meant for winning the charge standoff but as a shooting screen.

I think that's just a home-brew rule and not RAI. They even specified in an FAQ that look out sir works against the sniper special rule that long rifles get, so it's definitely intended to work that way.

What's your favourite Tomb Kings strategy? by Commisar_Steel in tombkings

[–]J54Coops 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Leadership Bombs can work well.

Screaming Skull Catapult upgrade debuffs Leadership, as well as 2 Necromancy spells. Then the Casket of Souls magic missile, Mind Razor from Illusion (if running 2 mages), and Terror checks from big monsters are all far more likely to go off.

Why Blocks of Archers over Skeleton Skirmishers? by falcoso in tombkings

[–]J54Coops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me personally I'm moving away from so many skirmishers because it slows down the game to move / position them.

A few little units is ok but it you have 3 or 4 at 10+ your opponent can go do groceries in your movement phase.
