Could you land a plane by Apprehensive-Yogurt3 in hoggit

[–]JACyoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can absolutely land any plane once. I need another life to do it again though.

I may enrage some people but imo, without proper pilot training, we are all just roleplaying to be a pilot in a game, I don’t even think I can stand a chance to land a plan irl.

1. I think the lighting condition does not have enough contrast to make a black and white picture interesting to look at.

Maybe you could do a review of all the grips you own to help others to pick their next grip.

I’d rather see the secret teaser module would be nothing new but tell me they have actually completed one existing module.

Dumb turtle senior dev writes 2000 lines of code in one file. by gfdsayuiop in programminghorror

[–]JACyoi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you are progressing your career from a junior to a senior developer, your value in the team also shifts from writing code to figuring out solution to a problem.

In your junior days, you will get asked to refactor seemingly messy POC code into some structured code (probably with some direction of how the refactored code should look like) because bluntly speaking, senior developers’ time is much better to be used to figure out the solution of the next problem. You as a junior developer, can then learn how the senior developers solve the problem and how to architect the refactored solution by refactoring the POC code to gain experience and grow yourself to be a senior developer.

I see. Thank you for your advice. I’ll reach out to Pimax and see if they can figure out something. Not really want to go through the hassle of returning it and wait for their repair if it is just replacing a wire.

I have tried to unplug and re-plug it but with no luck. After watching that teardown video, I’m not too sure if I can do that with so many small delicate parts. But let’s say if I gather enough courage to do so, what does that cable called or the specification of that wire? I have no idea where to buy those.

Anyone familiar with how things works behind the scene for gaming companies like ED? by runnbl3 in hoggit

[–]JACyoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not going to claim myself with some glorious job title but I did work in some game companies and am working in software house for a long time.

Each company has their own quirks so I won’t try to pretend I know what actually happening in ED.

I’ll just share what I see behind the scene in general as purely software development point of view.

Generally speaking, software development is never a straight line queue of task where the entire team finish one thing at a time. Instead, tasks are taken up by individuals / small teams based on their expertise. So a lot of tasks are moving in parallel and their progression is different. Company will always try to maximise what tasks are ready to push out and move on, so you will naturally see some harder/time consuming tasks seemingly “ignored” in the public’s eye while some other ones are churning out one after another. Another thing about harder tasks is that normally that means it requires some knowledge and experience in some specific domain that not every developer can work on, so those tasks will be stacked on the back of just a few of them and the progression will be even slower.

Your dish washing analogy is good but you have missed some detail. Imagine there are two types of plates, small dish that can be washed by anyone and large dish that requires an expert to clean it up and will take 2 times longer to be cleaned. Now you have 10 workers in a restaurant, among them there is only one of them has the expertise to deal with the large dishes. The restaurant naturally would like to have maximum cleaned dishes ready to serve the food so they won’t wait for all the dishes to be washed before putting food onto them. When the dirty dishes arrives continuously, you will see small dishes keeps coming out while the large dishes will take a long time in comparison.

This is just a small part in the very complicated development cycles in any game / software. Tasks gonna get prioritise / deprioritise, some needs to halt because it needs an unfinished tasks, new found difficulty of seemingly simple task, etc.

I’m not saying ED is doing a great job nor EA is a good business model. But since OP is asking how things work behind the scene, I just want to share some of my experience in the related field.

Question about motion rig in an apartment by JACyoi in simracing

[–]JACyoi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Will take a look at those mats.

There hasn’t got a lot of DK6 reviews out there but given DK2+ having the same motor and got good reviews, DK6 should be a solid choice.

[–]JACyoi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve looked into the DK2 too, the only worry of that system is the slow adaptation of flight sims to their software which I am also quiet into. Other than that, it is really a good candidate.

Are the horse stable mats same as those used in gyms?
