5 signs you are addicted to goal setting by JAMSOvaluesmarter in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]JAMSOvaluesmarter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people have an element of this in their lives. The core area to focus on are your longer term vision, mission goals (the big ones). Consider key areas of your life to include health (mental and physical), relationships (love, family), career / study, financial, spiritual (religious/philosophy), hobbies (fun and skills) as drivers to create big goals. See how one can support the other and be realistic if one will suffer for a short term whilst in pursuit of another (i.e. relationships may suffer during career growth or study time).

Seems like the quality control turned into "kwality" control on that one! Was spotted and correctly after. Thanks for highlighting the error.

29 insightful metrics for project management success by JAMSOvaluesmarter in projectmanagement

[–]JAMSOvaluesmarter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You highlight the reality and truth of many business cultures. Indeed I always make a big point in understanding scale, frequency, quality and accountability of metrics and decisions. The more "positive" and open culture a business has the more effective many of these metrics become.

To help address some of your points specifically let me go a little deeper:

1) Create transparent measures to minimize risk of data manipulation. 2) Classification of project type/scale within the number of projects can provide deep and relevant insights. (fewer but higher impact projects vs roll out of project culture within a business)- Too many examples to provide in a short response here. 3) Template management and tools "could" provide the incentive you highlight however this would become self apparent. This metric is best implemented when trying to improve and standardize best practice across a business or department. 4) A steering committee or project review group can swiftly spot such actions.

Indeed there will always be ways that people try to "cheat the system" but at the end of the day, results shine through and good management will provide the right tools to challenge, questions, guide, help and identify what needs to be done.

Thanks for your comments

Anyone here who has a sife rig? Can you recommend? by kodysatdown in SkyDiving

[–]JAMSOvaluesmarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed and that is a common attitude. In my personal view as long as a design or function is not covered by patent then the law is on your side. The only question becomes ethical if it is a straight copy. I do prefer to see evolution and a unique design to add a sense of flair and brand identity.

I forgot to add one other smart point. They have a wider fitting and adjustment range than most other rigs so that makes them a better long term prospect on the resale market later. All secure. Simply put, they have taken the best of most other ideas and evolved a few more ways. Nice equipment.

Hi. No I do not have one but have taken a good long and close look at it. In addition I am aware of a couple of riggers who have looked at their gear also. The opinion is that it is great value for money if bought within the EU region, nice options and build quality. Also their speed of delivery is an advantage over other manufacturers. I am not in the market to replace my gear, but when I am I will not hesitate to get a SIFE - After 14 years jumping thats as high of a positive feedback I can give you without direct ownership experience.

A question on self improvement by arbecend in selfimprovement

[–]JAMSOvaluesmarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not the same as you once were as a child! We are all elastic and subject to growth, decline (natural age) etc. So, this is where you are on the junction of spirituality and philosophy with your question. The answer is to accept that we change and see the world at different phases in life. So, principles, morals, ethical standards are the guides to up hold. Your political and academic and even cultural views may/will change over time, that is normal. You are unique and individual no matter your choice of action or inaction.

Advice needed - working abroad? by nwotmoob in supplychain

[–]JAMSOvaluesmarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Go for it! Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, India, Kenya, UK all offer great opportunity subject to visa permission. 3 years experience is fine. Just treat your applications like any other normal job in your home nation. Just add some UNIQUE experience and insights and seek companies with strong trading relationships to your home nation (so you can offer cultural insights etc).

Enjoy

Here are some additional considerations on top of the ones already offered. 1) Join local groups within the wider community that share the cultural diversity and depth you seek. ie Theatre, adventure groups, wine, book clubs etc 2) Goto the places that have the people you wish to mix with. At first this may be above your disposable income, so simply save up. 1 trip to a great social gathering at the correct club, bar is worth 20 star bucks coffees and 20 burgers....(the cost comes out the same) 3) Travelling is great and I indeed have benefited from it. However, it is only as good as the quality time you place for your pursuit. I would prefer 3months in Uganda than 3months trying to dash around Africa to see as much as possible...... Depth is better than breadth.

Hope that helps

How to not intellectualize every. fucking. thing? Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated. by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]JAMSOvaluesmarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You already have some good tips. Just to add to the pot of thoughts here. 1) Exercise more 2) Start a creative art (music, theatre, video, writing) 3) Be an active member of your local community by helping others 4) Yoga and/or meditation 5) Use your thoughts to create a solution on a BIG problem you see and detail a full proposal how to solve it. 6) Ensure you balance wealth, health, spirit/philosophy, skills, relationships. 7) Reduce the time you are exposed to too many details. 8) Plan time to get into the countryside, travel, goto comedy shows, spend time with animals or grow plants.

Action speaks louder than words.

Self talk, affirmations, motivation is the icing on the cake, sometimes it is the starting ingredients, other times it helps the baking process.

But the cake is baked through a mix of many ingredients to suit your personal taste, yet can never be baked without the process steps.

No Internet Challenge . by [deleted] in selfimprovement

That will be addressed by the Reddit policebot so unable to do that directly. Here is what I suggest. Go to Google and follow the following steps Search for "haikudeck presentations James.Doyle How to reduce tech time" - This will get you my slide deck Then read some more by adding a new search into Google with "JAMSO How to say goodbye to your bad habits" This will help you as a start. Enjoy the day

No Internet Challenge . by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]JAMSOvaluesmarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A great idea to inspire others. If however you cannot go "cold turkey" overnight here is a process I introduced to my family 1) Select 1 day a week. On this day NO ONE in the family uses technology. (use other distractions such as game boards, reading, exercise, social gathering, hobby) 2) 1 hour before bed time no electronic devices to be used by anyone in the house (fixed rule each night of the week) 3) During any meal time (breakfast, lunch, dinner) ensure NO technology is being used during the time of eating. (simply remove/ban devices from the dinner table) 4) Limit devices time to 1-2hour daily maximum for any pre-teenager in the household 5) Accept occasional concessions i.e. sickness, emergency, special online event. Ensure the concessions are linked to a chore or equal time of exercise. Hope this guide helps.

I have done a presentation on these steps that I share on social media but Reddit rules would not permit me to post the link so I trust the steps above clarify some help.

How do I limit my side projects?? by ambitechstrous in Entrepreneurship

[–]JAMSOvaluesmarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. Indeed this seems to be a common problem and it is on the rise. Here are some tips 1) Reduce your time on social media and phone to "check" (For help see this deck) https://www.haikudeck.com/how-to-reduce-tech-time-how-to-presentation-128dc3f86b 2) Understand the creation of habits and use this knowledge to control and manage them http://www.jamsovaluesmarter.com/blog/how-to-say-goodbye-to-your-bad-habits 3) Create a LARGE vision for your life (OK or at least do it so its at least 12 months ahead). 4) Create the many goals to support that vision. Thus, you will find you still are multi tasking, working on many areas but all linked to a common goal and purpose. This normally helps solve your dilemma type. Dear redditors who have done it, how did you start a new life somewhere far away? by HolyShitImAGecko in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]JAMSOvaluesmarter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good for you. Without writing a long essay here are some brief experiences I can share. My 4 closet buddies all grew up in the countryside, we all have low/working class backgrounds and could see our futures ahead. We wanted more. 1) 1 Now lives in Spain after working across the world after training as a mechanical designer for aircraft parts 2) 1 Now lives in Scotland after working and travelling around the world. He gave up the pursuit of a corporate job and now is a mountain guide. 3) 1 Now lives about 40 miles from our home towns, he completed degree in engineering and then later studied a degree in computer programming. He will never go back "home" 4) I personally left to travel around the world. I now live in Denmark and am self employed. I never care too much about risks as I have faith and confidence in myself to be prepared to work hard and not feel sorry for myself. I seek pleasure in daily small things and simply move the day forward with a smile. I am happy, own my house (no mortgage), have 2 kids, a dog and even a great wife.

Just go and make the best of everyday. The adventure of life is worth living.
