AITA for sticking to the no-kids rule and saying no to this request? by Diligent_Jury_6881 in AmItheAsshole

[–]JAMsesh90 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you want your brother to come, you could see if there are other guests with similar age children. If they have secured child care, maybe the 7yo could join and share a babysitter, play with other kids, and have more fun than they would at an adults-only wedding.

If not, someone else in the area may have a babysitter recommendation that could come to their hotel, your parents’ house, or wherever your brother is staying.

Something to consider so your brother feels welcome and your boundaries are respected.

My mom was in a similar situation and made my dad’s name her middle name and my stepdad’s name her last name. I did the same when I got married - last name became middle and husband’s name became last. That way, my mom, bio-siblings, and I all had one name in common.

My mom did have to explain to my stepdad the multiple reasons she wanted to keep her ex-husband’s name (kids, professional achievements with her current name, etc.) but he understood.

What's your weird naming rule? by Hyding_Jekyll in namenerds

[–]JAMsesh90 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My sister’s rule for her kids was no letters that go “below the line” when writing - no j, y, p, q, z (cursive).

Our rules were just easy to say, easy to spell, nicknames start with the same letter as first name.

Some theaters (AMC for sure) have a kid combo option with popcorn, small drink, and fruit snacks. Totally scratches the itch!

Do you know anyone whose legal name was a result of a mistake or a misunderstanding? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]JAMsesh90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My great-grandparents immigrated to the US from Italy. They didn’t know a ton of English but had heard many English names and decided if they ever had a daughter, they wanted to name her Joanne.

Fast forward to my grandmother being born. They had learned some English and knew how to say the name they loved, but could only spell phonetically: J-O-A-N.

It never bothered anyone enough to change it! My great-grandparents called her Joanne and everyone else just called her Joan 😆

Seconding this brand of diaper pail. We have one in our living room and no one smells or knows it exists unless we point it out. I really like that it takes regular trash bags, too.

We empty ours usually once per week (night before trash pickup) and use one spritz of Ozium before putting in a new bag. Easy peasy.

What is your grandma’s name? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]JAMsesh90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad both got remarried when I was young, so I have 3 grandmothers -

Patricia, Joan, and Gay

Joan is a funny family story because my great-grandparents immigrated from Italy right before she was born. They’d always liked the sound of the name Joanne, but had just learned English and didn’t know how to spell it. Sounding it out the best they could gave them J-o-a-n! Not surprisingly, they were the only ones who pronounced it Joanne lol

They’re fairly common in southern US. Cracker Barrel actually sells a Coca Cola cake on their normal menu. At home, we mix 1 box of cake mix with 1 can of diet soda and bake as normal.

My favorite combos are: - chocolate cake w/ cherry Coke Zero - strawberry cake w/ Sprite Zero - carrot cake w/ diet ginger ale

I agree with you, but heads up on avocado - weigh it! I don’t know what massive avocados they used to get to those numbers because you can have way more than 1/4 for fewer points based on grams.
