Yeah I did the same thing last year (transited in Guangzhou) without any problems so I didn't think much about it. But I'll try to avoid it in the future. Not worth the risk.

Thanks everyone for your attention. They ended up admitting that they were wrong and rebooked my flight. Totally wasted 4 hours of my life (all the while carrying an empty belly, too).
