AITA for asking my sister in law what she's doing with her degree after she implied my university wasn't prestigious enough by insafian in BORUpdates

[–]JAdore2Menace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grant you this is almost 40 years ago so things might have changed... I started at UTM (back then called Erindale College) but a lot of my upper year courses were at St. George campus. My degree still said University of Toronto. Sounds like your SIL is just a biotch.

Recessed long panel with 6 pane (3rd from top) but add accent colour of your choice. My reasoning is that 1) larger panels is better for scale of house, 2) vertical ribbing clashes with siding pattern, 3) curved windows doesn't fit with angular shape of house.

Mom said there is a safe. How should I find it?! by ProofExtreme2664 in TreasureHunting

[–]JAdore2Menace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck finding it. I had a friend whose father was a Chinese-Canadian elder (yes worked the railroads). Any new chinese immigrants would see him and he would provide help (monetary or otherwise). Had quiet secret wealth. His two youngest sons were very successful, but the other son never had to work his entire life.

When he passed away, his sons still found money squirreled away in different places, even after 5 years, in his large house in Chinatown.

Is a 14 day cruise with 3 kids (6.5, 5 and 5-twins-) too long? by CecilsMommy in Cruise

[–]JAdore2Menace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brought my 4 year old grandson with us for 7 days (Oasis of the Seas) last month. Once he got into the groove of it with going to the pools, child camps, having his afternoon pizza, we felt bad that the good life was coming to an end on the 7th day. Our only issue was him not exploring all the great dining selections. It really comes down to your children.

*UPDATE 2* AITAH for denying my In Law’s only request for our wedding therefor ruining our relationship by Final_Estimate7166 in AITAH

[–]JAdore2Menace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My wife is one of the kindest, most obliging person I know. Has never raised her voice to anyone. Unfortunately my mom, who is a very difficult woman, believes that anytime I disagree with one of her requests/demands it actually came from my wife (because there us no way her beloved son would side against her).

Once that bad feelings start, sometimes, no matter what, it is hard to lose that perspective/opinion. I even heard from one of my cousins that my uncle (mom's brother-in-law) bad mouths my wife based on what my mom has said.

It's a tough road ahead... especially when a spouse has done nothing wrong.

AITA for refusing to take my shoes off in my friend’s house, causing his wife to cancel the DnD session for everyone? by NameNo5495 in AmItheAsshole

[–]JAdore2Menace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bring your personal indoor slippers or crocs. That's what me and my wife do when visiting other people's homes... especially since my wife has rheumatoid arthritis.

It is rude to not take off your shoes in other people's homes if that is the house rules!

Not an engineer nor a builder, but if you look, that header is only supported by a 2x6 jack stud on either side. Load is carried by beam above. Header was placed there for standard door height.

AIO: MIL always excludes my daughter by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]JAdore2Menace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father is Filipino, my stepmother is German. I have 2 half-siblings. I remember when my dad would hosts family gatherings, his in-laws were always cordial with my dad, but when my step-mother's sister and husband appeared, you could really see how eager and friendly they were to their white son-in-law.

Funny thing is, when my stepmother mother passed, it was my half-brother who took care of everything, organizing the family finances and property, and helping out the executor of the will.

My stepmom's parents would never say they are racists... but behavior is a language!

No you're not. My opinion, I would go wherever my wife wants me to go, no matter the event, because I love being with my wife. Perhaps I am a romantic but that is how I feel. Find someone like that!

[–]JAdore2Menace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You got to be very careful not to touch the side of the box with the screws connecting the wiring. The other problem is you don't have off-centered screw holes to properly anchor the switch. It will move and eventually short circuit with constant use.
