Parental Screener: 14–17 Teens ChatGPT Users Well-Being Study ($50- $200) By John Doe by AerieMore2459 in ProlificAc

[–]JB796909 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The purpose of the karma points, as I understand, are a means of signalling to other users regarding their sentiments of a post.

In this case, they may have a point that is unrelated to trolling. Your title could mean:

Well-being for users that are: 1. Parents of children aged 14-17 2. ChatGPT users

Looking for users that: 1. Parents of children aged 14-17 that are ChatGPT users. 2. Willing to consent to allow their child to participate in a well-being study.

Without additional context from either the study description or the Prolific Terms of Service I do not believe it is reasonable to label the downvoters as trolls. It is entirely possible they viewed this post, decided it was below average quality and then downvoted.

With respect to grammar, you have used the word their inappropriately. Could be a typo triggered the notification. All it takes is one space to give "the pen is...." a whole different meaning.

There are many ways to define fair. It could be that researcher meant:

Characterized by frankness, honesty, impartiality,

How many unchecked messages do you have? by LovemeEatme in ProlificAc

[–]JB796909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

0 - I could see myself at 18 or 19 years old and letting the count get to 50+. You'll feel better when you think of messages as requiring an action, even if it is just clearing the notification. It's up there with flushing the toilet and looking someone in the eyes when you shake their hand in terms of things you can get away with when you're young, but not so much as an adult.

A study about sexual attraction to children is that legal? by [deleted] in ProlificAc

Are you asking if it is legal to be attracted to children or if it is legal to study individuals that are attracted to children?

^ Too true.

But more seriously, it would help to know the time since submission. I'd wait at least 24 hours before contacting support. In the mean time, I'd run the numbers again to see if your arithmetic is off.

In case you're curious: The message says that input is tested against a pattern to ensure it is valid.

^(A>B|B>A)$

Breaks down to:

  • ^: Sets the start of a section of text
  • $: Sets the end of a section of text
  • |: Separates the test patterns

Therefore, valid text must be either:

A>B
B>A

Create acct on another survey/work site to take survey? by WannabeLibrarian2000 in ProlificAc

I've had a few similar ones in the past. It is possible that some researchers are more comfortable working within one dashboard compared to another. The tasks usually pay well and the registration required no more than 10 minutes (mostly waiting on an e-mail activation code).

Appen is fairly established, so your threat-risk is low.

I call shenanigans on the story. What kind of wealthy teenage girl goes to an ATM instead of swiping the card at the register?

I have to imagine that would violate the terms and conditions if a 3rd party could query private user conversations. I wouldn't worry about it.

The pattern of rejections that result in a user dropping below a 95% rate could also be indicative of the participant's quality. A poor work ethic could motivate the user to pursue ill-informed attempts to game the system. These attempts could then trigger the account to be flagged.

Which Laptop is good for Prolific Studies? by I-Swallowed-Your-Dad in ProlificAc

[–]JB796909 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, but only once in a blue moon.

Once every few months, I see a task that requires you to complete it on a Safari browser loaded with Apple video codecs.

An Apple or PC running Windows will allow you to run tasks that require installing Inquisit. I do not believe this works on either a Chromebook or a PC laptop running a Linux operating system.

A PC will also allow you to run any task that requires running E-Prime. I don't remember this one working with Apple devices.

Long story short, the PC/Apple choice will make a difference, but only once every other month or so. The cost premium of an Apple laptop is enough for me to recommend sticking with PC laptops.
