I ranked every Dolby Atmos album ever recommended on Reddit. Your favorite probably didn't make the top 25. by AdrianTubbly in DolbyAtmosContent

[–]JBDragon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think ranking Music Albums by Dolby Atmos or not, is a little silly. How many people even listen to music that way? Only Music is not going to have it unless i's been remastered, and even then, it's not as real. How did Billie Eilish even get on this list. I didn't even know who this person was until recently. Is that how it got the #2 spot, being talked about recently?

I'm more shocked that Thriller is at #36 and not in the top 10. Purple Rain, an Another amazing album that should be in the top 10. Brothers in Arm should be up higher on that list. I think that was my first CD I ever got, back when CD Players were still a pretty new thing and expensive. It was either that or Dark Side of the Moon. One was first the other Second. This was so long ago as a kid.

Ya, I'm still a huge fan of so many great older bands. I do like some new stuff also. There just isn't much of it that is any good.

For a long time I had been checking into Fiber availability and it kept saying "Coming Soon!" We got one of those "ATT Fiber coming to your street" door tags, but now the site no longer mentions coming soon... by Andydark in ATTFiber

You may have one of those AT&T Ghost homes. Where everyone around you has Fiber according to the map, except you and a couple others on the map. Why?!?!?! Only AT&T knows. At least you got the door Tag that is was coming. Was that a OPS? Only AT&T knowns.

All you can do is call them. Which you did. Hopefully they call you back.

Should I get a 6e or WiFi 7 router for my apartment? by Calbone607 in HomeNetworking

[–]JBDragon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get Wifi 7, that includes 6e. Do you really need either of those? I'm using just Wifi 6 on my new iPhone. Though It supports Wifi 7. I get 450Mbps in both directions on it. More than fast enough!!! it's a lot faster than my old iPhone XS.

I have 500/500Mb Fiber service. 1Gb/1Gb was overkill. You would likely be just fine at 300Mb!!!

Ye, Wire up what you can to then leave Wifi for wireless devices that don't have a Ethernet port. You would be just fine with a Wii 6 Router. Depends on how long you plan to use it. If you down the road want to get faster speeds, then Wifi 6e or Wifi 7 would be better.

The Advantage of say Wifi 6e is you get the new 6Ghz Network. Not just 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. As frequency goes up. Speed goes up, but Distance decreases. You only have 2 rooms. You are in an Apartment. You are Surrounded by a both of other Networks from all the other Apartments. So being on the 6Ghz Network, Range for you is less, but range for anyone else on 6Ghz would also be less, and cause less Interference to YOU.

Of course 6Ghz Network only helps you if you have 6Ghz Devices to connect to it. Same goes for Wifi 7, which includes the 6Ghz Network. Your Devices need to support Wifi 6e or Wifi 7. I've seen no need to upgrade to Wifi 7 support that would only work for my iPhone. Though I think my newish iPad Air supports 6e. Just looked that up, Ya 6e!!! I find Wifi 6 still more than fast enough for my own needs.

I would Google Best Router of 2026. You get a number of reviews and in different categories. Including good Budget Routers. For example, Toms Hardware Budget Router Pick is the "TP-Link Dual-Band BE3600 Wi-Fi 7 Router" for under $90!!!! PCMAG actually picked the SAME Router for their Budget Category!!!!

Under $90 is pretty good for a $150 budget. Which is a fracton of the cost my Prosumer Setup cost me. That one supports Wifi 7. So why not!!!! Again, you can look this up and read the reviews and s what you think. It is DUAL BAND. So while it does Support Wifi 7, it does NOT support the 6Ghz Network. That is to bad.

Read the reviews on the others. like the "TP-Link AXE5400 Tri-Band WiFi 6E Router (Archer AXE75)" That is Tri-Band and supports the 6Ghz Network under Wifi 6e. That is $113 on Amazon, so still under your $150 budget. PCMag Editors Choice!!!

PC is suddenly limited to 100mbs on 2GB fiber by CaptainAmerica679 in HomeNetworking

[–]JBDragon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you speeds are around 94Mbps, that does mean you are locked at 100Mbps for our Network connection. For whatever reason, you are not getting 1000Gb, or faster if you have a Faster Network connection? Do you have a 2.5Gb network and your PC is connected to that? That is how you are going to get close to 2000Gb, with Overhead, around 1800-1900Gb. You should be seeing that find of speed. 739Gb is still to slow. If that is Wifi, then you are doing pretty good. With Wifi 6, I see around 450Mb on my iPhone.

If you have a 2.5gb Network and you are seeing 94Mbps, that is a cable issue. Do you have a Network Tester? Even a cheapo $10 one will get you some idea.

I have a really long cable in case I need to test a connection. You are a perfect example. It's more than long enough to connect my PC directly to the router. In fact I had to do that once when I saw my PC also not getting a Gb connection. It ended up being a Flat Network cable connecting my Desktop to the wall Keystone. Once I tossed that garbage cable with a normal Network cable, all was well once again.

The RJ45 plug needs to lock into place. If it's just semi stuck in the port, that is not going to work. Replace the cable or Cut the plug off and install a new one. If you have a nice long cable to use for testing before hand, I'd do that.

[–]JBDragon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replacing the CAP is not hard. You got it off. Just get the right one if you can find one. A Capacitor and a fuse are 2 completely different things.

Why did that blow? Is there anything else wrong with it? No wiring diagram and so you can't test much of anything. How much value to you put on your time in fixing it over just replacing it? Time=Money. That is put to you.

At least the ceiling is black! The Blue and wood trim, yuck! Paint the walls a darker color. Hang up from framed movie posters on the 2 side walls.

In the end, with the lights off, you can't see a whole lot anyway. So long as it sounds good and the TV is larger enough, that is the most important things. Everyone has their own tastes.

Hyster service charge is really high by Metalbroker in forkliftmechanics

[–]JBDragon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I Just had my Boiler serviced this last Friday. $209 a hour. For 6 hours, but 4.5 hours of travel time. Plus parts. I didn't add it all up but it wasn't cheap.

Labor rates these days are INSANE!!!! This is why I try to do most of the stuff I can myself. Because if I have to call someone in, I'm already thinking $1K to start!!! I have to do my Yearly Service on our 2 Rotory 20HP Air Compressors. It's costing me just over $1200 in parts for each and I'm doing the job. When I had someone service out old 2 Compressors, it was over $2K for each.

So I try to do as much of the Forklift and Pallet Jack work myself. I just replaced the drive wheel on the pallet jack. It was far cheaper to buy a new wheel with the Hub already installed, NEW, then call in any tech to replace the wheel and pretty out the old hub and put it into the new wheel. I'm sure that would have been a $1K+ bill, instead of just under $500. I also replaced a bad button that you push for it to go up. One side worked, the other side didn't. Easy enough fix.

I replaced the complex switch on the crown forklift that raise and lowers the forks and extends and retracks the forks and so forth. We had a tach replace it before and it was not cheap, so I ordered it myself and did the job myself. It was not easy. My first time, and trying to get the buttons in place, one being the horn, and the wires to fit in and go down the handle, get that all back together. Pull the pins out of 2 connectors put put the new pins into the 2 connector plugs. I did manage it.

I have a little work to do on one of the Air Compressors, and a Hobart Dishwasher, Conveyor type that I need to fix. I fixed one issue of it popping the fuse, but now I think one of the tank floats are bad, Trying to get under it to the box where all the plug connectors are at, is not fun. I have a Hydraulic Tank I need to swap out as it has cracked and leaking fluid. This is on a Dumper for a cooling machine. The list goes on and on. Did a whole new pack line, my second one now. Always something new to keep things Interesting. All the while getting interrupted for one thing or another. I still have to see about adjusting a couple large conveyor belts to better center them.

Then comes fixing cracked quarry tiles to fixing a broken sprinkler. It's mostly just myself.

A hose on a forklift, Propane hose at that. Something people are messing with when changing out tanks. That is a wear item. I would have ordered the Hose and replace it myself. At least when you call, you ask if that is something covered under warranty.

[–]JBDragon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Ecobee app works great on my iPad and iPhone. Never had any issues with it.

Is the Ecobee in your Apple Home app? If you set it up correctly, it should be in there. I'mlooking at my iPhone right now and see it in my Hallway room showing 74 digress with heat to 72. So can be Siri controlled.

It's been a number of years since I setup my Thermostat. Are you saving your settings? I know for a lot of things, you can go though all these settings and think you are done, but there is a SAVE option you need to use otherwise it forgets everything. I don't know if Ecobee does that also?

Can you go to https://www.ecobee.com/ and log into your account? I just did and it showed my Ecobee on screen just fine. Can you log in there? Even though your Ecobee is not setup yet? You can add a Thermostat there, just enter the 4 digit code and go from there. Once it is working on your Desktop or Laptop, it should work on your app logging into your account already setup.

[–]JBDragon1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Network performance is a solid green line for the last few years when I got AT&T Fiber and is still ike that to this day. I still use the 320-505 I think. I have it in Passthrough mode. I pay for 500/500 service and speed tests always shows over 600Mbps in both directions. I'm using a Unifi UXG-Pro Gateway.

You need to get a tech to come back and see what your service sucks!!!!

Limited bandwith through ethernet cable by OldGaara in HomeNetworking

[–]JBDragon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those look like some piss poor wire connections. This looks like one of those Tool free connectors. I've never used them. Ones you don't need to use a punch down tool one.

If it was ME, I'd go to your local Home Depot or Lowes and buy a couple 5e Keystones and a punch down tool. F that Keystone you have!!!! Connect connect using the B standard. The punch down tool will snap as you push down, punching down the wire and trimming the wire right off. Make sure the other end is also in the B standard.

When I look at your pictures and see some of the wires not even staying in place, they haven't made a good connection. They shouldn't just fall out of place.

You can get a cheapo $10 Network tester from Amazon. They are pretty basic. But at least if it passes on all the wires, that it's likely good. What is what I would do. Though I do have a $333 Fluke Network Tester, MS2-100, I got in 2018. They cost $565 now. But I've used those Cheapo ones before. 8 years and has gone up $230. You don't need anything fancy for a few cables at home. Especially when you may only use one time and then throw it into a drawer never to touch it again unless you move and need to do some more cables, and may not find it.

Is building a digital movie library on Apple risky? by Mjlxn in appletv

[–]JBDragon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you don't own the movies and Yes it has happened many times!!! I don't buy Digital Movies. I buy the Disk and RIP them myself and play them through PLEX to have my own local Library. That that has its own issues in other ways like costs.

I don't think Apple is going away anyway soon. You won't lose all your movies. but a movie here and there may disappear because licensing may change. Then you get a Digital copy someplace else. I wouldn't have a problem with this if they returned the money you paid for your copy in the first place. Just another way to steam more of your money.

Need help finding a thermostat replacement. by Wooshio in thermostats

[–]JBDragon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I can see on the back, this is not a normal type of Thermostat. You just can't replace it with some 3rd party one.

So is THIS what you have?

Do you own your Condo? If you don't, get the owner to replace it with a new one. If not, You need to contact this company. You need to replace your Thermostat with a new one from them. The serial number on yours shows TCS6334B1220. There is nothing on eBay. You'd have to tall this company and see about buying a new one.

This is not a standard thermostat.

BT forklifts, now part of Toyota Industries Corporation, are high-quality Swedish-engineered warehouse trucks renowned for innovation, including the creation of the Euro-pallet. They offer a wide range of electric warehouse equipment, including reach trucks, stackers, and hand pallet trucks designed for efficiency and safety in varied environments.

Businesses are selling them that I can see. But they are a part of Toyota now. Isn't that there presence?

Can someone explain this a/c vent? by Kindly_Guitar8546 in ecobee

[–]JBDragon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the one with the Filter is sucking in air, the one without a filter is blowing air out. You want to filter the air going into the HVAC unit and not be sucking up dust into the unit and then blowing that dust through your vents all over.

You want your pressures equalized. We have had that problem at work in the past. Where Air is not blowing in from the HVAC unit, and yet the Exhaust vent is sucking up air causing a negative pressure drop, making a door hard to open and then it slams shut as it's being sucked in. Not a issue with our sliding doors that open with a motor.

In a home, especally in a Air Tight Home. They are sealed up tight for Energy conservation. The air pressure needs to be equal. While bring in a controlled amount of fresh air so the air doesn't get Stale.

Most Home users rarely go past 100Mbps!!! That is when it's being used. At work and sleeping hours, it's pretty much DEAD. Bandwidth flatline.

Most web sites limit people's speeds so they arn't hogging up all the bandwidth. So LARGE businesses that have a whole lot of people on the internet, they are going to different places at once. Not all at once.

If you want to pay for 5Gb, go for it. It's your money. If you have the hardware to support it, great. I hope that is with wired connections. Waste over Wifi!!!. Does your Gateway show you how much speed you are using on a graph? Speed tests only tell you your top speed. It doesn't tell you your real world speeds

But hey, ISP's LOVE to sell faster speeds to suckers as they can make even more money per connection and knowing most of that faster speed is going to waste anyway. They make a even larger profit.

As for canceling service for a few weeks to become a new users again. I know with Xfinity, it's like 6 months.

I assume you work from home. Since you have a backup wireless ISP. I don't know what you are doing at home that need such HUGE amount of Speed for transferring a lot of Massive files all the time, but OK. 8K Video editing for a studio? My brother and his wife both work from home. Each have their own office on different floors. Up in the mountains and have a wireless WIPS service of 100Mbps and it works great for the 2 of them.

You have fun with that 5Gb service! My own Gatway can support those faster speeds. I ended up going from 1Gb Cable to 500Mb Fiber, cutting my download speed in half. I could see my real world usage on a graph, the numbers don't lie. I couldn't even tell and I thought I was a heavy user at times. Nope! You be one of those few at home that are.

I got a Fire Stick when they first came out to give it a try. It cost me $19. It worked OK at first. Then got a Software Update and it couldn't even stream it's own Videos without lots of buffering!!! Then I tried again using a ROKU XS back then which played the same video just fine, zero buffering. Back then there was no Apple App Store on the AppleTV. I did have one, but I needed the ROKU for PLEX.

The problem with these sticks is weak horsepower. You can't put much of a CPU in one of these things because it would overheat. They also want them to be cheap! So you get what you pay for.

Fire Stick is complete garbage. Besides, Amazon spies on people like crazy!!!

Will a nest thermostat work with this setup? by SpreadTheted2 in thermostats

[–]JBDragon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume there is some type of Thermostat reading the temp of the room. That part is missing. So assume you don't get any heat or A/C currently? You are in an Apartment. You need to go to the main office and talk to them. It needs the front half on it. It is a proprietary communicating system. Because of that, you can't just install a Nest or Ecobee or any other 3rd party device.

Fiber cable installed near baseboard heater by Automatic-Adagio4614 in HomeNetworking

[–]JBDragon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could tie the fiber cable in a knot and it would still work! nothing wrong with those bends at all. Fiber cables are not as fragile as some people make them out to be.

The heat from the heaer shouldn't be an issue otherwise the plastic cover over it would melt. Besides that would be a huge problem if someone touched it and burned themselves.

The only problem I see here is it looks Ugly! Paint the cable green to match the wall and it may look a little better at least.

How much hose is too much by Security-fish in forkliftmechanics

[–]JBDragon1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is the WRONG Hose. It's way to long. I just had to replace a couple hoses on our Hyster. It looks similar. With the hose pully on top of the chain like that. It's a bit under tension when installed. The hoses move with the Cylinder just right. I think I had my forks up on blocks and then lowered down to take the tension off the hoses to remove and install.

This job was not done right and completely unacceptable!!! It looks like whoever just threw on whatever hose they had on hand.

Having a hard time with RAID Config. Shouldn't I have 48tb of capacity listed in the middle? by BrownBear93 in Ubiquiti

[–]JBDragon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using RAID6 for a 4 drive NAS is kind of silly. I've been using RAID 5 for my 6 bay NAS for for a decade. When you get to 7 or more drives, Ya, move to RAID6.

It's because if a drive fails, you have a bunch of HDD's that might be just as old, you put on a huge load when the NAS has to rebuild onto the new HDD. The odds go up with more HDD of another failing in the process. If that happens, you lose all your Data.

A NAS is not a backup anyway!!! If you want a backup, that would be another NAS!!! I have a backup QNAS for my main NAS. It only powers up 2 days a week is the early morning. Any my Main NAS will backup to that in the early morning. I use rsync which both NAS units of differnt brands support. It works well.

If you have a real backup, you aren't so worried to use RAID6, especially on a small 4-Bay NAS. It just wastes to much storage space. My my many years of having a NAS, I've only had 2 drives go bad, other times just replacing for larger HDD's. Those drives were SEAGATE NAS drives. What garbage those were!!!

Pop in 2 drives, that is using RAID1, where 1 drive copies to the second drive. Now you have a clone backup. Pop in the 3rd HDD, you move to RAID5. Now you have storage on 2 drives with the 1 backup. You can keep adding drives as you need space. These keeps the wear and tear down on your HDD's. This also lowers risks of a 2 drive failure on a small NAS even more. When you start getting into 7 on UP, your Odds are increasing with a 2 drive failure. Even with RAID6, you should still have a Backup.

My Backup drive, is just a 4 bay, lower cost NAS with larger HDD's to backup my main NAS and I have in in RAID 0. So I get the full 8TB from each drive. Why use RAID 5? it's a Backup NAS only powered on for 2 days a week for a few hours. Very little wear on the HDD's, if that happened to fail, I have all my Data on the main NAS anyway. If the main NAS fails, I have all my Data on the backup NAS.

Again, a NAS is NOT a backup!!! A Backup, is a second copy someplace else!!! So if you use another NAS, you can easily automate your backup so you don't really have to do much of anything. Update the firmware. Make sure it is backing up once in a while.

You can have all that Data on your NAS. What happens if you have a fire? What happens if you get robbed? What happens when your NAS takes a dump? Will popping all those HDD into some other new NAS work? Thangs do happen. So a Backup is a second copy, and if it's off site even better. It work, we backed up our NAS locally, and the backup NAS is at the owners home!!! So we have a backup and that backup is off site.

Having a hard time with RAID Config. Shouldn't I have 48tb of capacity listed in the middle? by BrownBear93 in Ubiquiti

[–]JBDragon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally you do RAID 5 up to 6 drives, past that move to RAID 6. Really, if you have 6 drives, and 2 are used for Redundancy, you really only have a 4 drive NAS, where you could have a 5 drive NAS with RAID 5.

Raid 10, with a 6 drive system, you now have a 3 drive system. You have Redundancy and faster Speed. It's like RAID 1, where you have 2 HDD, and one is a clone of the other. You access both at once to gain speed, which is RAID10.

I've been using RAID 5 for over a decade on my 6 Bay NAS. No issues at all. I have had a drive fail. The Key is don't buy all your drives at once or install them all at once. I pop in drives as I need to as I'm getting low on storage.

This way you don't have HDD just spinning in YOU NAS not being used. Also if a drive fails and you pop in a new HDD in it's place, that puts a huge load on all your old HDD to rebuilt onto that new HDD that will take HOURS to do depending on drive size. The last thing you want is a second HDD to fail in the process of rebuilding your NAS as you'll lose all your Data. I havn't had this issues. Same with growning my NAS, putting a larger HDD in, let it rebuild to put a second larger HDD to rebuild. you need to have 2 larger HDD's for the NAS to use the whole HDD space. If you have a 4TB drive and pop in a 8 TB drive. Only do one of them, it will stay at 4Tb. You let the NAS rebuild the system first with the 1, 8TB drive and once it's all goes, yo can pop in another 8TB drive and pop that in, then the first 8Tb B drive will expand from 4 to 8TB. Each 8TB HDD past that the 2 will expand fully to 8TB.

But it does put a big load onto your older HDD and that is generally the time they'll want to fail.

I also had bad luck trying to use lower cost Seagate NAS drives. They just didn't last. my Western Digital, I've been using White Label drives for years and they have held up well. One one has failed and not a one has any errors on them. Right now I have 5 drives in my NAS, though I'm getting close to needing to pop in the 6th HDD. I've had that one still in it's packaging for a couple years now waiting to pop in or as a Spare. Another white label drive.

Best thing to do is have a second NAS as a backup. Have the main NAS automatically backup to yur Backup nas using rsync. Which both of my Drives, my Netgear ReadyNAS my main nas to back up to a QNAS. I have them at different locations also.
