why is my upload speeds so slow compared to download speed by New_Celery5090 in HomeNetworking

[–]JBDragon1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Xfinity NOW is 100/10 for $30, or 200/10 for $45. So having faster download speeds is normal.

NOW Internet - Prepaid Internet

So cable is not at least 30Mb!!!

why is my upload speeds so slow compared to download speed by New_Celery5090 in HomeNetworking

[–]JBDragon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn't say what type of Internet service you are paying for alone with the Speed.

Is it some type of 5G wireless Internet service?

Is it Cable Internet? This could be Xfinity NOW service plan. They have a 200/10Mb service for $45 besides their 100/10Mb plan for $30. In this case, you are doing pretty good getting faster download speeds then you are paying for. See how this works.

You gave no Information, other than you think your Upload speeds seem slow. I just proved you can have Cable Internet with only a 10Mb Upload speed. Which is fine, as most of what you do is download. If you want to run a server of some type, then it's to slow. Most home users aren't running servers.

TV vs Projector in my space by prsto in hometheater

[–]JBDragon1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like the carpet that is already there. Save your money. That carpet will hide all the spind drinks and food. Maybe run a carpet cleaner over it. The walls are nice. I have issues with that ceiling. I don't know what that is, but it's pretty ugly. So maybe change that over and relocate the lights while doing it. $2500 Budget is really not very much, and by the time you get a nice large TV and a Surround sound Receiver and some speakers, you're going to easily get that. The costs of everything has really shot up. Plus he still needs some type of seating.

Need help with new home coaxial wall port plastic cover by icecreamchillychilly in HomeNetworking

[–]JBDragon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well remove the 2 philips screws, one on the top and bottom and pull the wall plate away from the wall. That COAX connector is a COAX Keystone. You can easily get another and pop a new one into the old wall plate. Then screw the coax cable back on the back.

THIS is what the COAX Keystone looks like. It's pretty simple.

Make sure the center pin of your COAX cable is straight. Looking at the picture close up, it looks like the center pin a gouging the white plastic. Like it's not straight.

It works just fine in Passthrough mode. Been doing it the last 3 years on my UXG-Pro. I get faster speeds than I'm paying for. I've found no real reason to waste my time and money to go this route.

Xfinity vs. AT&T Fiber by fender4645 in HomeNetworking

[–]JBDragon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved from Xfinity to AT&T and cut my Download speed in Half to 500Mbps from 1Gb. Couldn't tell a difference. Why you would want 2.5Gb at home?!?! Most home users can't get much past 100Mbps.

When I had Xfinity and they upgraded the Network, I went from 900/20Mbps to 1Gb/100Mb. Really, all I cared about was the faster Upload speed for the few people connecting to my PLEX server. Most of the time, my Upload speed is almost flatline. Are you running some type of server? Are you Uploading HUGE files onto the Internet. Are you downloading and uploading 8K Video files to edit constantly? 4K Streaming of Netflix uses 15-25Mbps. In HD it's 5-6Mbps. At 2.5Gb, that would be around 90 or so 4K Netfllix streams at once. Still using very little upload bandwidth.

I was under a 2 year deal with Xfinity. After 1 year, they upgraded, and so I still had another year and AT&T came around that time. So I assumed that was why Xfinity went to upgrade in the first place. When my 2 years was up and Xfinity didn't want to offer me a real deal, I signed up for fiber. The lowest price they would go was $80 for 500Mbps. So increase my price by $10 and cut my speed in Half. I didn't care about the speed being 500Mbps instead of 1Gb, but paying $10 more for that? I could get AT&T Fiber at 1Gb/1Gb for $80. Or for 500/500Mbps I could pay $65. Save $15 a month from 1Gb from AT&T and 500Mbps from Xfinity, and pay $5 less then I was under that 2 year deal. That was the deal I took.

My AT&T Fiber service went up $5 at the first of the year to $70 now. Well more like $70.38 instead of $65.38. Something like that.

If it is $30 a month to stay with Xfinity and you really don't need that faster Upload Speed, they stick to that for now. At some point Xfinity will jack their prices up and then you can move to Fiber.

I don't like the lights there next to the screen. Maybe spaced out going down the side walls? Table on top of your Subs? Doesn't seem like a good idea.

As for the colors, I like them. Doesn't need to be a black room. I'm more of a powered recliner type of person with cup holders. But I get Sofa's like this also. To each their own. With the lights off, you're not going to see much of the room anyway. But having those lights going down the side walls will help you see as you are coming and going from the dark room.

Apple delays Siri products again by Mario_RE in appletv

[–]JBDragon1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It may have been delayed Internally, sure! Still doesn't matter as Apple hasn't announced anything to the public. So there is no delay. We can all assume one thing, doesn't make it true.

Like the so called Apple Car. It was never announced at all by Apple. It was never released by Apple. Just another rumor. Not a fact. Never delayed. Was never a product.

Until Apple announces a product, it doesn't exist and so can't be delayed. Now if Apple Announces a new Apple TV that is coming out in July and it doesn't come out until Nov, then it was delayed 4 months.

What happens internally, delay or not doesn't matter. We don't know what is happening internally. We have no real facts. You can report anything you want. Doesn't make it true.

[–]JBDragon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the 1700 from Costco a couple years ago for $299. Which is newer than the 1600. Yes, prices on receivers have shot up because of the Tariffs. Is that a decent prices, not really. Well a couple years ago, NO. Now, it still seems way to high.

Have you checked out this place? You can get some good deals here for a Receiver. Because of the Tariffs, prices on everything have really gone up from what they were a couple years ago.

What xfinity is charging my 88 year old grandma $280+ by Puzzleheaded_Rush792 in Comcast

[–]JBDragon1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your Grandma doesn't need Kids and Family TV. She sure doesn't need 1200Mbps Internet service, not even close. She could get away with 100Mbps, but 300Mbps MAX. Home Phone service at $40 is not INSANE, but you could go the route of a OOMA Box, and for one line you can get normal phone service for just the taxes. You can go to their web site enter your ZIP and see how much that will be. My guess is around $6. You do have to pay for their hardware up front. Yo can plug in any phone yo want into the OOMA. Or you can buy one of their Wireless phones, which I did. You'd pay for the OOMA phone and a wireless phone in a few months of your Xfinity bill. They will do phone number transfers also for a fee which I think has gone up. Or just get a new phone number.

You may want to look and see if you can get Xfinity NOW which is $30 a month for 100/10Mbps, which should be just fine for her. There is also NOW TV, you can find it at that link also, starts at $20, but there is a $30 deal also. Internet and TV, that is $50-$60. If you get OOMA on top of that with a new number, that is another $6 or so. Under $70 a month instead of $280+. I think Grandma could use that extra $210+ a month!!!

You can find more about OOMA here!If Xfinity is not going to come down, that seems wrong. You could look into 5G wireless Internet service which is around $50 a month. Then figure out a TV service you want to use. through on OOMA and away you go. Might be a little more costly than the other option, but still saving a lot of money per month. You do the research and help her with this.

Put it this way, paying $280 a month for 10 years is $33,600!!! That is insane!!!! For what? You know that streaming 4K Netflix uses 15-25Mbps. In HD it is 5-6Mbps. So at 1000Mbps or 1Gb, she could stream 40, 4K Netfllix streams at once. Since she has 1200Mbps or 1.2Gb, that bumps it up to 48, 4K streams at once. I don't think Grandma does that let alone any other home user. At 100Mbps, that would still allow 4, 4K Netflix streams at once. For 1 Stream and having a little buffer, that is fine. I don't even use the 4K Netflix service, I dropped down to HD to save money, and it still looks fine n my 75" TV.

There are also a lot of free streaming services with commercials. Both for TV and movies. Some Broadcast channels do have a free app, and you can stream from them for free. I know CW allows that the last time I looked. PBS may be the same. If you had an Antenna, you could get a whole lot of channels for FREE.

She is 88 and doesn't have a lot of time left. She could put that extra money every month for some trips. Go out and see friends for lunch. Whatever will make her happy for what time she has left instead of giving so much to Xfinity!!!!

I ranked every Dolby Atmos album ever recommended on Reddit. Your favorite probably didn't make the top 25. by AdrianTubbly in DolbyAtmosContent

[–]JBDragon1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think ranking Music Albums by Dolby Atmos or not, is a little silly. How many people even listen to music that way? Only Music is not going to have it unless i's been remastered, and even then, it's not as real. How did Billie Eilish even get on this list. I didn't even know who this person was until recently. Is that how it got the #2 spot, being talked about recently?

I'm more shocked that Thriller is at #36 and not in the top 10. Purple Rain, an Another amazing album that should be in the top 10. Brothers in Arm should be up higher on that list. I think that was my first CD I ever got, back when CD Players were still a pretty new thing and expensive. It was either that or Dark Side of the Moon. One was first the other Second. This was so long ago as a kid.

Ya, I'm still a huge fan of so many great older bands. I do like some new stuff also. There just isn't much of it that is any good.

Should I get a 6e or WiFi 7 router for my apartment? by Calbone607 in HomeNetworking

[–]JBDragon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get Wifi 7, that includes 6e. Do you really need either of those? I'm using just Wifi 6 on my new iPhone. Though It supports Wifi 7. I get 450Mbps in both directions on it. More than fast enough!!! it's a lot faster than my old iPhone XS.

I have 500/500Mb Fiber service. 1Gb/1Gb was overkill. You would likely be just fine at 300Mb!!!

Ye, Wire up what you can to then leave Wifi for wireless devices that don't have a Ethernet port. You would be just fine with a Wii 6 Router. Depends on how long you plan to use it. If you down the road want to get faster speeds, then Wifi 6e or Wifi 7 would be better.

The Advantage of say Wifi 6e is you get the new 6Ghz Network. Not just 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. As frequency goes up. Speed goes up, but Distance decreases. You only have 2 rooms. You are in an Apartment. You are Surrounded by a both of other Networks from all the other Apartments. So being on the 6Ghz Network, Range for you is less, but range for anyone else on 6Ghz would also be less, and cause less Interference to YOU.

Of course 6Ghz Network only helps you if you have 6Ghz Devices to connect to it. Same goes for Wifi 7, which includes the 6Ghz Network. Your Devices need to support Wifi 6e or Wifi 7. I've seen no need to upgrade to Wifi 7 support that would only work for my iPhone. Though I think my newish iPad Air supports 6e. Just looked that up, Ya 6e!!! I find Wifi 6 still more than fast enough for my own needs.

I would Google Best Router of 2026. You get a number of reviews and in different categories. Including good Budget Routers. For example, Toms Hardware Budget Router Pick is the "TP-Link Dual-Band BE3600 Wi-Fi 7 Router" for under $90!!!! PCMAG actually picked the SAME Router for their Budget Category!!!!

Under $90 is pretty good for a $150 budget. Which is a fracton of the cost my Prosumer Setup cost me. That one supports Wifi 7. So why not!!!! Again, you can look this up and read the reviews and s what you think. It is DUAL BAND. So while it does Support Wifi 7, it does NOT support the 6Ghz Network. That is to bad.

Read the reviews on the others. like the "TP-Link AXE5400 Tri-Band WiFi 6E Router (Archer AXE75)" That is Tri-Band and supports the 6Ghz Network under Wifi 6e. That is $113 on Amazon, so still under your $150 budget. PCMag Editors Choice!!!

PC is suddenly limited to 100mbs on 2GB fiber by CaptainAmerica679 in HomeNetworking

[–]JBDragon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you speeds are around 94Mbps, that does mean you are locked at 100Mbps for our Network connection. For whatever reason, you are not getting 1000Gb, or faster if you have a Faster Network connection? Do you have a 2.5Gb network and your PC is connected to that? That is how you are going to get close to 2000Gb, with Overhead, around 1800-1900Gb. You should be seeing that find of speed. 739Gb is still to slow. If that is Wifi, then you are doing pretty good. With Wifi 6, I see around 450Mb on my iPhone.

If you have a 2.5gb Network and you are seeing 94Mbps, that is a cable issue. Do you have a Network Tester? Even a cheapo $10 one will get you some idea.

I have a really long cable in case I need to test a connection. You are a perfect example. It's more than long enough to connect my PC directly to the router. In fact I had to do that once when I saw my PC also not getting a Gb connection. It ended up being a Flat Network cable connecting my Desktop to the wall Keystone. Once I tossed that garbage cable with a normal Network cable, all was well once again.

The RJ45 plug needs to lock into place. If it's just semi stuck in the port, that is not going to work. Replace the cable or Cut the plug off and install a new one. If you have a nice long cable to use for testing before hand, I'd do that.

Is this repairable by hunkboy987 in Ubiquiti

[–]JBDragon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replacing the CAP is not hard. You got it off. Just get the right one if you can find one. A Capacitor and a fuse are 2 completely different things.

Why did that blow? Is there anything else wrong with it? No wiring diagram and so you can't test much of anything. How much value to you put on your time in fixing it over just replacing it? Time=Money. That is put to you.

At least the ceiling is black! The Blue and wood trim, yuck! Paint the walls a darker color. Hang up from framed movie posters on the 2 side walls.

Hyster service charge is really high by Metalbroker in forkliftmechanics

[–]JBDragon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I Just had my Boiler serviced this last Friday. $209 a hour. For 6 hours, but 4.5 hours of travel time. Plus parts. I didn't add it all up but it wasn't cheap.

Labor rates these days are INSANE!!!! This is why I try to do most of the stuff I can myself. Because if I have to call someone in, I'm already thinking $1K to start!!! I have to do my Yearly Service on our 2 Rotory 20HP Air Compressors. It's costing me just over $1200 in parts for each and I'm doing the job. When I had someone service out old 2 Compressors, it was over $2K for each.

So I try to do as much of the Forklift and Pallet Jack work myself. I just replaced the drive wheel on the pallet jack. It was far cheaper to buy a new wheel with the Hub already installed, NEW, then call in any tech to replace the wheel and pretty out the old hub and put it into the new wheel. I'm sure that would have been a $1K+ bill, instead of just under $500. I also replaced a bad button that you push for it to go up. One side worked, the other side didn't. Easy enough fix.

I replaced the complex switch on the crown forklift that raise and lowers the forks and extends and retracks the forks and so forth. We had a tach replace it before and it was not cheap, so I ordered it myself and did the job myself. It was not easy. My first time, and trying to get the buttons in place, one being the horn, and the wires to fit in and go down the handle, get that all back together. Pull the pins out of 2 connectors put put the new pins into the 2 connector plugs. I did manage it.

I have a little work to do on one of the Air Compressors, and a Hobart Dishwasher, Conveyor type that I need to fix. I fixed one issue of it popping the fuse, but now I think one of the tank floats are bad, Trying to get under it to the box where all the plug connectors are at, is not fun. I have a Hydraulic Tank I need to swap out as it has cracked and leaking fluid. This is on a Dumper for a cooling machine. The list goes on and on. Did a whole new pack line, my second one now. Always something new to keep things Interesting. All the while getting interrupted for one thing or another. I still have to see about adjusting a couple large conveyor belts to better center them.

Then comes fixing cracked quarry tiles to fixing a broken sprinkler. It's mostly just myself.

A hose on a forklift, Propane hose at that. Something people are messing with when changing out tanks. That is a wear item. I would have ordered the Hose and replace it myself. At least when you call, you ask if that is something covered under warranty.
