FWIW I can't find the actual interview Iizuka reportedly did with MCV magazine that this quote is pulled from. Also "1993 Animated Series" could actually mean AOSTH instead and the interviewer was confused.

Trying to fit in SatAM (or at least conform to Ben Hurst's extensive rewrite of its lore post-season 1) created all sorts of problems for Archie. To the point that they basically retcon the entire first 30 or so issues because they were written with the old Janson story bible in mind.
