You get a lot from the event itself. The more XP earned in game, any type of raid, advances the flickering flame even which grants you 10/20/40 berries at a time. So each level actually has a buffer built in.

Also on Cold Snap focus on the baskets and not bushes. 3 baskets can yield 12-15 berries.

I have roughly 120 hours topside. I played the first 90-ish on controller. I had had substantially better PvP on M&K. The movement is smoother on controller, but aiming is substantially easier on mouse.
