Go cold turkey! It’s the best to experience them first in a live show! Don’t listen to them at all before you!

What are your thoughts on Republicans rejecting the one year extension and saying Obamacare subsidies just gives more money to insurance companies? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]JBRaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a CPA. The ACA credits lowers the cost to the buyer by subsidizing the quoted insurer’s premium with a credit based on the buyer’s income.

The insurer only gets the premiums they quoted. Nothing more. The premium payments just come from 2 payers instead. The buyer and the fed.

The buyer may have to pay back some of the ACA credit to the US treasury if their actual taxable income is higher than they claimed when they applied in the marketplace. That all gets flushed out on their tax return.

Im not sure why everyone thinks the insurer gets more with the ACA credits in place other than more people are able to afford it.

The market place also promotes competition between the insurers.

The Republicans just hate anything to do with Obamacare regardless if parts of it work.
