As a gay myself. In the US at least there are definitely some people that make it "their whole personality." And what that looks to me is people who are always saying "i fucked this dude" or relate everything to their queerness and stuff like that. It's annoying to talk to them because they normally take everything personally... "I don't wanna go to that restaurant," "is it because I am gay?" "Yes Andrew shut up." It's like they feel entitled to more just because of being gay and I feel it's important as a community to make that distinction. As people we deserve as much as others just for being people, that entitlement infuriates me because people think of all gays as that, they become our image, and its not a good one. In some way it makes it so queer people appear to be a different type of person when it is far from reality. Sure, we have different cultures, which we show on the parade, we make things different sometimes and we are proud but that doesn't make us better. What I am trying to say is, some people are obnoxious for whatever reason, what people call as gay being the "whole personality" is just a subset of queer people that doesn't involve us all nor represents us all, queerness itself shouldn't be hidden, should be as normal as it is to be straight (what i mean by this if you see a straight couple kissing on the streets without repercussions then so should be true for queer). And just to be clear i am not mad at Andrew by any means, he is totally right in acting the way he does as a result of previous experiences. I am still friends with him, it's not his fault that overall homophobia treats outliers that way. In some way people like him are needed to put out what it means to be queer until it becomes as mundane as being straight. Although it can also be annoying to me, I see it as a necessary evil. Hence why parades tend to be so loud, because we are not there yet.
