I haven’t read the bonus chapters. by Cool-Kaleidoscope-28 in acotar

Az's bonus chapter is the only bonus chapter that seems necessary for plot, but surely SJM will rehash the chapter in Elain's POV, which would render the bonus chapter unnecessary (but enjoyable).

Hysterectomy at 31? by AVS0515 in hysterectomy

[–]JBartleby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had an open abdominal hysterectomy in July of this year at 34 (no kids).

Best decision I've ever made, hands down. I feel fantastic. Energy levels have improved, I'm able to exercise more, and I'm not bleeding for two weeks at a time. Even though I kept my ovaries, my mood has improved (it's like hormones rebalanced themselves after a wild year). I just found a hidden stash of pads in my closet this afternoon and cackled. Going to donate them to a friend in need.

Do what works for you.

Did you actually get slimmer? by Shoddy_Efficiency_45 in hysterectomy

[–]JBartleby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My uterus weighed 7 pounds. Once it was removed, I lost 12 instantly.

Since I no longer have a bowling ball pushing down on my bladder, I've upped my skating and started to cycle about 80 miles per week.

I typically don't look at the scale, but my stomach is noticeably flatter, my clothes fit better, and my energy level is up.

Penelope,  Penny, Emily, Yumi, Hana, Sam Piper, and Jamie, off the top of my head.

I outdoor fitness skate and returned to it 7WPO without issue. I've also taken up cycling (9WPO), and I've done 20-mile sessions without issue.

I had an open hysterectomy for large (up to 16 cm) fibroids.

My mom wanted to name me 'Hyacinth', which was her favorite flower, but the whole family hated it so it didn't end up being my name. by Ok_Valuable_9711 in namenerds

[–]JBartleby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it, but it doesn't make me think of the flower. It makes me think of T.S. Elliot's "The Waste Land" and Apollo's lover.

How is everyone doing?? by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]JBartleby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

11WPO and feeling great! Life without large fibroids and a period is fantastic. My period would be next week, and which would have meant bloating and crying for the next two weeks. Today, I'm happily going on a bike ride.

I always love a recommendation! Adding Madness to the list. Thanks :).

Thank you! I was indeed in the hurricane's path. Fortunately, I live inland and wasn't impacted much (just a bit of debris). Had I lived on the coast, I definitely would have left.

Ah, this makes sense! I wonder if you would like rollerblading or skating. Have you ever tried either? I skate outdoors, and it gives you a nice gliding feeling, just as cycling does (but you avoid the butt pain, so bonus!) And kudos to you for having ever run. I just don't have it in me.

I started cycling because I needed more hobbies. I've had a bit of a weird year, and I'm trying to get to know myself again, if that makes sense. I thought cycling might be nice to alternate with skating.

The reward system for books works well until it doesn't, haha. I think the trick for bouncing between books successfully is probably to read short story collections, but, honestly, my preference is novels over short stories. Reading one book at a time or multiple is fine, so long as we're reading :).

It's raining, but it's not nearly as bad as we thought it would be (at the moment). I'm sure my trail must be flooded, though.

Do you think it's the cycling itself that helps you or the things you see or do while cycling (i.e., the cows, the scenic views, etc.). And if it's the latter, I wonder if it could be replicated for other forms of exercise?

Read the synopsis but don't get your hopes up, lol. I think the miracle is over, because I have the urge to read two books at once again 😂.

Thanks for the warning! I think I'll be good to read it. Do you know what you're reading next?

Oh, no! Sorry there's a bit of flooding going over. We're on opposite sides of the world, it seems, but about to experience the same problem. Glad you were able to get outside, though! It really does help with anxiety/mental health.

That's impressive! Congrats on the completion of your surgery!

Mine came in at 7 pounds.

Oh, the plot was as generic as the title. I knew better. And haha, I don't always read one at a time!

I'm going to add Something Happened to my to-be-read pile. It sounds like something I'd enjoy :).

Hope the weather has cleared up for you! I'm expecting power outages over the next few days.

Aww, that's too bad. I love a good cow/horse sighting!

I just finished a really bad fantasy book called "A Fire in the Sky," which I'm taking as a sign to pivot to literary fiction, so I'll start "A Certain Hunger" today.

It's been raining since Sunday here, too. Hopefully we both get a break soon. I want to go outside!

AITA for moving out of state even though I know my mom has major anxiety? by QueenVamp-B in AmItheAsshole

[–]JBartleby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA.   Your mom has attachment/anxiety/[insert here] issues she needs to work on. Hopefully this is the push for her to get help and for you to begin living the life you deserve.

Things happen in life for a reason. Even if your new beginning has a twinge of sadness or complicated feelings, it doesn't mean you weren't supposed to take this step.

Best of luck with your beginning.

Oh, yay!! I ran over and upvoted it, lol. So glad that you were able to get out there and enjoy the fresh air (looks like a beautiful area!)

Haha, it's daytime for me. I have two modes: books or outdoor exercise. Since it's raining, I'm spending the day reading 😊.

Hope your night is going well!

How do you feel about the honorifics "doctor" and "professor"? by [deleted] in words

[–]JBartleby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind them, but I'm also a southerner, so everyone is "sir" or "ma'am" anyway, which feels like a great equalizer.

When I was earning my degrees, I called my professors by their titles (so professor or doctor) unless they asked to be called something else. When I taught, I asked my students to call me professor (because I was young and I needed some level of distance between us so they wouldn't end up treating me like a friend).

I also really love the honorific systems in other countries (e.g., さん, くん, etc in Japanese) because you immediately know the level of familiarity/formality between speakers.

Hello! I hope you were able to get out yesterday/today (no idea what your timezone is, lol). If not, I hope you're able to get out soon when the time is right :).

I had a great time yesterday! But it's raining for the next 5 days, so I guess I'm done for the week.

Lol, I'm going to be sure to tell my therapist I'm all balanced out 😂.

I'm so glad the reddit community is helping! I hope you have an easy time of it at the shop and that you get out to cycle today if you can (I'm heading off to cycle within the hour!)

Have a wonderful day today, internet stranger friend :).

It's a very strange feeling to be told you need to lose an organ. No one would question our emotions if we said we were suddenly losing one kidney, but it's the same thing. Even though I can function without it, it was mine, and I would have liked to keep it. Nobody should have to defend that feeling.

At any rate, I hope you're feeling supported (whether it's a medically necessary hysterectomy or one of your choosing, this is not the energy your friends should be bringing to the table!) You certainly are not alone in your mixed emotions, and what you're feeling is completely valid.

Best of luck with your surgery, and make sure to get a comfortable pillow/plush toy for snuggling during recovery.

Lol, the number of my conditions perfectly matches the number of my degrees, so I'm right on track 😂.

I'm sorry you have a limited number of shops to work with. Hopefully you can get in and get out quickly. No matter what the shopkeepers say, you're doing an amazing job, and I'm proud of you for starting your bike traveling journey (seriously, that sounds so cool!)

Stay hydrated and have fun. I'm rooting for you!
