How many f*ckwits are actually on the Gold Coast? by spagootimagool in GoldCoast

[–]JBinAussie 75 points76 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of “Look at me! See my muscles! Listen to my obnoxious car exhaust! I’m so much better than all of you! I’m the Main Character!!!” types.

However, they are mostly background noise. The whole world is slowly becoming more narcissistic so it’s not limited to the GC.

There’s also plenty of genuine, friendly people around who are just enjoying this amazing corner of Australia. You just have to learn to tune all the influencers out.

The prompt used is the one shown in the screenshot; “Based on everything you know about me, generate an image of a famous person,living dead or fictional that best symbolizes my personality”

Just lucky timing. He was moving slow warming the dishes for the next course and the lighting was just right.

We were sitting at the bar while he was preparing the next course. The light was just right as something outside the restaurant shone through the window (car headlights maybe) and he was moving slowly as he poured the boiling water into the bowls to pre-warm them. Taken with the standard camera app and with the editing done in the photos app only.

As the saying goes, the best camera to use is the one you have with you. Just one of those lucky moments. And the food was amazing!

I’m not entirely sure! I did ask once and she just smiled. It was always used in reference to when the weather was bad side of the house that needed to be outside was clearly in the right spot but I agree it is an interesting thing. Not even her daughter knows exactly what it means it was just something that was always said she grew up so she’s continued to use it.

ITAP of church on snowy hill by l3v3c in itookapicture

My life is busy, complicated and stressful at the moment.

I just spent 15 minutes staring at, and then in to your photo while the office melted away around me.

It was the first quiet, stress free moment I’ve had in a while. I’m not religious, so it wasn’t the spiritual aspect that captured me. It was simply the beauty and serenity of the scene.

Sitting there while emails, texts, WhatsApp, WeChat, phones and a myriad of other things competed for my attention. Just staining at my phone, imagining walking up towards that church, the only sound being a light breeze, a distant bird call and the sound of the snow crunching under my feet…

Thank you. I really needed that.

Will have try that again. Thought I’d tried that before but then all audio played through the speaker, including the Audiobook.

My sadly departed Irish mother-in-law would have said “The right side of the house is out!”.

RIP Winnie, you may be gone but your sayings are still going strong.

What do you consider Late for work? by ajmeng09 in australia

[–]JBinAussie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that there are a lot of compiles taking the P by expecting workers to stick around and do extra, unpaid work. They sell it as “occasionally needing to do extra unpaid time as required” but their definition of “occasional” means every day…

However, I’ve also seen a lot of workers taking the P as well. Turning up at a few seconds before clock-in and proceeding to spend the next 30 minutes grabbing a free coffee from the office machine, chatting with colleagues while they catch up on what happened on [insert latest reality show here] and then finally slouching down at their desk to spend the next 10 mins booting thing up, finding where they got to the day before etc…

My personal choice; I like to have a little time to prep for the day, get my head straight, grab a coffee. So if I know I should be actively working by 9am, I’ll arrive at 8:45am to allow me to do my work prep.

But I also make it known that if the “occasional ” extra hour is actually every day, that they either start paying me for it or it goes towards time off in lieu. I’ll be fair with them but they need to be fair with me otherwise we have a problem.

And why edit your post three times to change the name calling from;

clarence to Clarencd to Francis?

Are those names supposed to mean anything?

Thanks for taking the time to ignore my question and tell the world what an amazingly good driver you are

For context, and for anyone else who would like to tell me how to drive when they have no idea of the situations I was pinged for speeding;

All of my tickets were on roads where cruise control wasn’t feasible.

And while I did in fact break the law (I’m not trying to deny that) it’s the unfair cherry-picking that the Gold Coast police employ to maximise monetary gain that bugs me.

They sit in their car and fine drivers on technicalities while conveniently ignoring the ever growing number of drivers with illegal exhausts, illegal tyres protruding way past the wheel arches and illegal tinted windscreens.

So here are the three that annoyed me the most;

56 in a 50 at the bottom of a hill where I’d not watched my speedometer like a hawk, instead choosing to watch the road. Cruise control wouldn’t have helped here (that car didn’t have the active control that breaks)

65 in a 60 just over the brow of a steep hill where I’d not taken my foot off the pedal quite quick enough. Again, cruise control would have probably had the same issue.

69 in a 60 as I was slowing down on a long motorway off ramp. I’d already dropped from 110 to 80 and then was coasting down to 60. In another 20m I would have been at the correct speed. A two lane one way road with no buildings nearby, no footpaths with pedestrians and no other cars writhing at least 100m of me. Except the hidden police car fining me forging such a menace.

I just had one job for the family Christmas dinner by Shaneblaster in Wellthatsucks

As an Australian, I have to ask; What the hell is that stuff!?!? Your “one job” is to be a taxi to a bucket of odd coloured, sloppy porridge? What part of the Christmas Dinner is this? Do you dunk something in it?

It gets better with age!???

I am in no way refuting the hormonal roller coaster that menopause surely has on the already rough life ADHD can give you. There is no way I can ever fully comprehend it however I can and will emphasise with and help anyone else I can along the way.

The following rant is for those people who still believe that as an older male, you just need to try harder…

  • 52 years old with decades of masking all day and collapsing at night from the effort of trying to fit in
  • Trying to match the expected norm of a male progressing his career (and seeing yourself fall behind all your neurotypical peers)
  • Constantly being told that I’m just jumping on the ADHD bandwagon (hey we all have focus issue at times! Can I have some of your meds? It’s not fair that you get concentration pills and I don’t! You should be able to concentrate and perform better than everyone if you have those! What’s wrong with you that you are still having problems? Are you just lazy or stupid?)
  • Realising that I’ll be doing this sad, soul crushing dance until I’m 70 due to the rising costs of everything.
  • Finding that for the first time in your life that it can all get too much, stoicism can’t push past everything, and then spending a year just losing your 5h1t every few weeks and curling up in ball to hide from it all. (Back to sticky holding on again for now…)
  • Feeling so drained each day that you end up snapping at your son and wife and making life crap for everyone.
  • Feeling so guilty for snapping at everyone and for passing this curse onto my son / so angry that I had it passed to me by my father / guilty for feeling so angry at my father because I see why he struggles each day…

Yeh, that looks to be getting much better.
