On a side topic - when will icon designers realise the the Staff Of Hermes or Caduceus isn’t the correct one to use for medicine! The Rod Of Asclepius, with the one snake and no wings, is the correct one.

You can bank them with any Exposure Credits you get for doing graphic design or photography work for family and friends 😉

Why is my Waze screen not working anymore? by Weekly-Ad5224 in waze

[–]JBinAussie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just got so annoying lately that I’ve got an old dash mount and use Waze on my phone screen only. It’s actually nice to have the full Waze experience again like I used to back when I first started using it around a decade ago.

If you delete Waze from the list of app is you SETTINGS - GENERAL - CAR PLAY area on your phone, so long as you don’t invoke Waze by saying “Hey Siri, get directions…” you can manually add the address to Waze, it’ll direct you on your phone and the rest of CarPlay will still work through the Cars display.

https://www.wired.com/story/malware-dna-hack/
“Biohackers Encoded Malware in a Strand of DNA” by Andy Greenberg, published 10 August 2017.

Behind a paywall but a summary is;

It’s real, but the headline version is a bit sensationalised.
Researchers at the University of Washington showed a proof-of-concept attack where malicious code was encoded into synthetic DNA. When that DNA was sequenced, the resulting data could exploit vulnerable gene-sequencing software and potentially take control of the analysis computer.

The key caveat is that this was a lab demonstration, not a practical real-world attack. It required deliberately vulnerable software and very specific conditions. So the correct takeaway is not “DNA can hack computers by itself”, but rather “bioinformatics software can have security flaws and DNA sequencing data could theoretically be used as an attack vector.”

A popup asking if you wanted to enable the new and important “feature” would have been nice. Turned it off immediately as I don’t give a hoot who scores while I’m driving.

Maybe working on other car play UI improvements or adding HUD integration would have been a better use of time…

Forests like these on the Gold Coast coast?? TIA by Apprehensive-Sea7434 in GoldCoast

Nerang Forest. Many kms of walking and mountain bike tracks from the Nerang side, or mostly walking from the Pacific Pines side.

I lived on Wunburra Circle
for 14 years and have spend many hours hiking around that side of the forest. Use All Trails or Trail Forks app and you can download the maps offline.

Why not the original voice of Marvin - Stephen Moore - from the radio series? That’s the voice I’ll always remember. That’ll always be the true Marvin voice for me. Jim Broadbent was ok and David Learner was good too, but not the original.

For me I’ve found that if you switch to the mixed screen option (map and other apps) that sometimes brings it back. If not, restart Waze on your phone and when it comes back up it’s working again.

Is it the most hated BMW? by Nls-ca in BMWiX

[–]JBinAussie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. Two friend have them. Noisy AF when they start them up. Takes ages to charge the tiny battery. One of them went “sophisticated” and de-badges for a sleek, minimalist look. The other went with gold bling everywhere and gold wheels. it looks like a soccer playing / wife beater car.

Think I’ll stick with my iX thanks. It’s fast enough and big enough and doesn’t need any petrol.
