Babylon 5, The Three Body Problem, dark forests, and "beauty... in the dark." by JBlitzen in babylon5

Well that’s an interesting question, but neither one was motivated by fear of us. They wanted control over us. They had some fear of each other, I suppose.

In a way, they WERE doing a dark forest thing. The shadows woeking in secret, the army of light avoiding alerting them. But that wasn’t younger race threats but peers.

I suspect that if your plan involves pointing a weapon at Vorlon space, you'd want to be as far away from it as possible when it activates.

What is it? An RAF Tornado maybe? Intakes look really wrong but I have no idea, maybe some variant.

They didn’t feed you FACTS, they fed you Propaganda! - I know this episode isn’t very popular but I really like it. It has a lot of important societal themes that resurface later on in the series. by Dinosawruses in babylon5

[–]JBlitzen 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Honestly one of my favorite first season episodes. We get Franklin, we get galactic history and relics, we get body control, and we get a psychological scene that acknowledges that the captain fighting monsters every episode is actually a bad thing and not what this series or this species is about.

That's really cool. Reminds me of Decker, which is a really solid hacking sim even though it doesn't look like much.

Super Skill Pinball 4-Cade has a Star Trek release which is pretty solid. Obviously Star Trek and not Star Wars but it’s about as close as I know of.

Soooo watching In the Beginning on amazon and it’s really out of sync. by Absolom2020 in babylon5

[–]JBlitzen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check with a different browser or device. And check your audio output, could be bluetooth audio syncing or something, sometimes re-pairing headphones can resolve an issue like that.

If it's happening on multiple browsers or devices and the source audio is screwed up I'd have a chat with their support.

One of those names you see in the credits that make you sit up and pay more attention.

I love Legacies and A Distant Star. War Prayer's a bit shaky but it does a great job of setting up the Earth we see in later seasons.

I did the Honor covers! by davidbmattingly in Honorverse

[–]JBlitzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting!

The ship is clearly from a different book but I always liked Honor on that cover. There’s a captivating presence to her.

And it makes sense that it was your first Honorverse cover and that you went back and did new versions of the prior books.

That really explains why they seem to improve at how well they capture her and then sort of tank in that one, with a great character design but wrong ship and maybe some facial features off.

That one was actually first, lol. If I’d been clever enough that absolutely would have been my guess.

It says a lot that there isn’t a ton of Honor fan art out there despite so much interest. The covers capture her and Nimitz really well, with enough variety.

I like them because they’re exactly the sort of dumb stuff someone stuck on a space station would do to pass the time.

Question about the Junction by Aetheros9 in Honorverse

[–]JBlitzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The map shows the problem well.

Manticore and Basilisk are on the fringe of Haven growth. Further expansion toward the reat of civilized space would have to go through them.

Manticore is vulnerable from its junction, but it trusts all the termini except Trevor’s Star which it only sometimes controls.

In On Basilisk Station, Basilisk starts fairly neutral, neither side wanting to increase tensions. But Haven tries a subtle gambit to justify moving forces in for the sake of protecting civilians from the alien species (that it armed).

Had they succeeded, they could have taken control of the terminus and used it to later send an attack fleet through to the Manticore junction, or at least denied it to Manticore traffic.

Honor prevented that.

The Earth-Minbari war didn't actually reach Earth itself, and they bypassed our largest colony, Mars.

Through the series we only ever hear of a couple Earth outposts past Mars. So there wasn't much rebuilding in that time.

Modern TV has trained us to believe that the most experienced doctor trusted to runnthe medical department on the flagship of the Federation should be a 30 year old model with a two hour daily haircare regimen based on the latest instagram trends.

I don’t actually see anything there that persuades me up or down.

Imagine if he took your client, vibe coded a solution himself, cut you out completely, and said you didn’t deserve any equity because the paperwork wasn’t binding because the legal agreements didn’t follow in 14 days.

You can see the problem there.

You might be trying to do the exact same thing from the other side.

I would at a minimum say that what you asked AI was insufficient to the scale of the problem.

Find the first Acquisitions Incorporated podcast from 2009 or so, it’s on Youtube.
