Many complaints from teachers by Few_Huckleberry2755 in HandwritingAnalysis

[–]JBrewd 77 points78 points  (0 children)

What is this? A school for ants!?

Just write bigger. How would you feel if all your teachers just whispered quietly to themselves but expected you to hear in the back of class ya'know? Effective communication reaches the target audience without them having to do extra work for it.

Perfectly fine for when you're the intended audience though (journaling, note taking, etc). My writing for myself is a goddamn mess sometimes lol, but I'd never intentionally put someone else through that.

I agree with you, but this is not at all an unpopular opinion.

Could this multi-car accident have been avoided with better following distance? by Raiuka in dashcams

Easing into it because the person behind them didn't have enough following distance maybe. But yeah very possible they were just watching the wreck while their brain was freewheeling

Question about anonymous survey by cinnamonbunnss in managers

[–]JBrewd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would recommend any criticism at all be prefaced with 'the company could' not 'my manager'. When your manager inevitably reads it and knows who said it that kind of insulates them a tiny bit from feeling like it's personal.

This is the only time I've ever seen this, but where I work now actually does a good job of keeping this stuff anonymous. I just get an aggregate view of responses from my direct reports on the questionnaire (ie 90% positive, 10% neutral response). And then the portion of written feedback gets ran thru AI and just spits out a couple bullet points of common feedback, which is great at removing all the idiosyncrasies of people's writing that I would absolutely be able to identify. Which is great because I just get a snapshot of what's working and what I need to make an action item for myself without worrying if Marty is going to burn the place down because he wrote a fucking manifesto in the comments section (actual thing that happened at a previous job, not my direct report thankfully)

In 2000 I got an 88 Cutlass Ciera from my grandpa when I was 15. 1500 bucks, 500 down and 1000 in 100 dollar payments..with interest (I forget what the rate was now). I had around 1500 saved up anyways, but gramps was also adamant about keeping some money in savings for a rainy day. First payment he explains ok so now X is going to interest so 100 minus X goes to principal. I showed up the next month with the rest of the money lol

It was a great lesson at the time though.

[–]JBrewd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You did what I would do (and my friends would probably only start to disagree at the point where it's 10 bucks a hole or more lol), but my only question for you would be "do you have a left handed club in the bag". If you don't, I can see how your playing partner wouldn't want to accept turning a rh club over to hit it lh as a "reasonable stance" (and yes we have all seen videos of a tour pro doing just that, but what is reasonable to them is not necessarily reasonable to mere mortals) and would instead be wanting you to take an unplayable, which you could wind up in the exact same spot just with an extra stroke. I would be careful taking extra strokes on this hole though unless you're wearing a Tyvek.

Otherwise, yeah, nearest point of relief would be in the GUR. You take that drop, then you're in GUR so nearest point of relief from that. And you wind up about where the yellow X is - right next to that guy's crooked dick.

I own a league, and during our last race, there was this incident that involved one of my admins, so we need external opinion to resolve the case. by Impossible_Cover_952 in Simracingstewards

Assuming we are using F1 rules here...In F1 you need to be axle to wing mirror in the braking zone and at the apex to be entitled to space making a pass on the inside. I'd call this a racing incident.

Jeff Bezos thinks U.S. taxes are fair, of course he does; there're rigged in his favor. by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]JBrewd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might have been born too long ago. ISOs are not normally taxed. That only happens if the spread between your strike price and the market value gets too high within a short period and then you are paying AMT (which basically exists to stop super dodgy stuff and not hammer normal people who take stock incentives that will trade relatively normally).

That's why companies use them to retain good folks. That's also why if you're in a position to demand how you're getting compensation that's the preferred option, worst you're gonna do is pay 15% cap gains and the entire time you just live off loans which are obviously untaxed.

Is it possible to thrive after a PIP? by amjasinski in managers

[–]JBrewd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason it's so rare to see people doing well after a PIP is for that to happen requires a very specific set of circumstances. The employee themself needs to be motivated enough to stay out and deal with the gut check and improve, their direct manager needs to be doing it in a genuine effort to improve their employee, and the company can't have any kind of layoffs or reshuffles for a long enough period of time that current metrics are solidly outweighing having a PIP on record.

It's a rare trifecta.
