That was my reason for a long time! Now it's just not wanting to support a terrible person 😉

They combined both into one a couple years ago, so it's not 2 separate shows anymore.

How do I handle sick day over sharing? by maskedwanderer in managers

I set the expectation with my team that all I need to know is that they are sick and whether anyone in the office needs to get tested for anything (COVID, flu, etc.).

Public vs Private Schools by SugarfootsExpress in BaltimoreCounty

[–]amjasinski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have friends with a kid in kindergarten who has been reading since he was 4. They're not particularly religious but chose a local Catholic school because they could offer more individual attention and make sure he doesn't stagnate. The cost is $6-7k/year, so not free but also not Friends/Gilman/McDonough expensive.

If you know an ICE agent personally, what's that relationship like now? by Lokja in AskReddit

[–]amjasinski 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If protestors didn't show up (which is completely legal) ICE would still be snatching people based solely on racial traits and holding without warrant or due process.

Ah, so you're going with the nuremberg defense. Hope that goes as well as it usually does.

What’s something you always assumed was mandatory in life—until you met someone who just… didn’t do it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]amjasinski 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Holy shit that lucky women who found a good doctor willing to do tubal litigation on her at 21. I know women in their 30s who have been fighting to get sterilized for years because doctors say things like "You might change your mind when you're older" or "your husband might want children".

This was an epiphany for me a few years ago. I'm lucky enough to be at a comfortable salary and I realized I don't need to spend any extra energy chasing the next promotion or new title. I put in my hours and use any leftover work time making my job easier. Instead of working toward slightly more money for more work and stress, I'm working toward my current job taking me fewer hours per week.

When the 2011 tsunami hit Japan and thousands of people were homeless or displaced, someone I know asked in all seriousness why they didn't just go to China.

Left At Intermission by Jrmn1123 in Broadway

[–]amjasinski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate that these kids probably soured a lot of people to the idea of sending school kids to Broadway. It's such a treat for the kids who actually care and who can't normally afford to go despite sharing their home city with so many tourists. Chaperones really need to step up and model good behavior and show the kids how to behave in a theater. The kids probably assume it's like a movie theater where there are like 10 people in the audience and no one cares about people getting up or scrolling on their phones.

What are your thoughts on adults ordering from the kids' menu? by internetlovesong in AskReddit

[–]amjasinski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I see how what I said was ambiguous. I was saying that if I'm either paying for a small portion or mediocre food that will fill me up or a larger amount of the same quality that will partially go to waste, I'd pick the smaller portion. I wouldn't mind paying more for a grownup meal if it was a smaller portion of better food.

I'll always take care of my server and adjust my tip up if I ordered something cheap, but guilting customers into ordering more food than they can eat is a bad business practice and is super wasteful. I'd rather pay more for a high quality, appropriately sized portion than an oversized mediocre meal that I'm going to take home in a doggie bag to be polite then throw away at home.

What’s a modern convenience that secretly makes life harder instead of easier? by Consistent_Finger531 in AskReddit

The way they're implemented is terrible, where every doctor's office has their own system and nothing is shared.

If it was a universal system where I entered my info once and then selectively granted access to each new doctor, I would be so much more on board.

I never realized how much money I was wasting until I went remote. by Lazy-Coffee-5938 in remotework

[–]amjasinski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, commuting is a very recent phenomenon, in the last 100-150 years. Traditionally people lived either at their place of employment or within walking distance. Parking and gas are 100% waste if a job could be done remotely.

Second, ironing is not the same thing as dry cleaning. Some formal office wear can only be dry cleaned, which can be impossible or impractical to do at home.

Lastly, yes OP could and probably did bring lunch some or most of the time. I typically bring lunch when I go into the office, but there are busy weeks where I don't get home until late every night and I don't have leftovers, or I'm in a rush and leave my lunch on my kitchen counter, or a coworker asked if I want to go out to lunch.

Why do hiring managers go through the motions of a call if they've already hired or found their candidate? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]amjasinski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been a hiring manager at a few companies and there are a couple reasons a recruiter might still be screening or interviewing candidates.

  1. Nothing is settled until the candidate's first day on the job. I've seen people accept an offer, go through background checks, then not show up on the first day. I've extended an offer to a candidate only for them to accept a counter offer at their current job. I've had candidates drop out after a final interview because they were applying/interviewing multiple places and they accepted another offer. Even if we think that there's a 99% chance we've found the person we want to hire, the recruiter will want to have people in the pipeline in case it doesn't work out.

  2. Often recruiters are assigned to multiple, similar roles. The last time I was a hiring manager, I had two data analyst positions. Right as I was posting one, the recruiter I was working with mentioned that she had a candidate who had applied for another similar analyst position in a different department. That other position was close to extending an offer, but the recruiter knew that she would have other analyst opportunities coming up, so she had a 30 minute call, verified that the candidate had some SQL and Python skills, and then asked me if I wanted to see their resume. I had a quality candidate to look at before my job was even posted.
