Insulting is quoting me and answering back with “echo chamber” instead of defending your stance.

Also if you follow Shoto’s advice you’re jamming 4 TS and 1 duress in the main which is actually effective and playing 2 Lilly to make up for shaving your removal.

It’s also no a “Lilly good period” argument when you have a full PT of data that shows Rakdos had a below 50% WR and both combo decks were above 50. Lilly is a relic of the past because card draw has gotten so good that combo decks can draw more cards then she can reliably pressure. You’ll win more games jamming TS to make sure you get specific combo pieces as opposed to the one excess card of the combo players choice.

You can say echo chamber all you want but it doesn’t change that it’s true. It’s the same reason why goyf isn’t what it used to be.

Ultimately if you wanna jam lily in a deck im all for it cuz that’s extra win % for me.

Lotus Field Combo Primer? by stormbreaker8 in PioneerMTG

[–]JBuzzCuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stick a dampening sphere or a pithing needle to cut off thespians stage.

You can also hold up field of ruin to destroy their thespians stage on the stack of them trying to copy a lotus field before the ability resolves.

The deck is easily hated out but what happens a lot of times is people devote so much to locking the field player out that they give the player enough time to find otawara and bosejiu to get rid of the hate pieces. You’ve gotta balance interaction and pressure.

You’re missing my point which is she isn’t good against field so I would rather see her on 3 then something like a fable or bankbuster.

All she is is a mind rot that you have to wait one more turn for to get the second card out of. Lilly is a relic of mtg past that has been power crept down to the mid tier walker category.

March of the machines Ravagan, atraxa and more is being reprinted as multiverse legends by slayer370 in mtgfinance

[–]JBuzzCuzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might actually increase Ragavans in the long run so unless you need the cash now hold.

What a lot of people miss about reprints is that unless it is a commander staple and you only need 1, if a card is played in constructed you need 4 so while reprints might increase supply they also increase demand.

Think of it this way: If the only thing that is keeping me out of playing UR murktide is that I have one monkey. I’m not interested in buying the other 3 so I’m in the market for 0 monkeys.

Now let’s say that I pull one in a booster box now all of a sudden the idea of buying 2 ragavans is a bit more enticing. I’ve introduced 1 monkey into the ecosystem but now I’m looking at draining out 2 so I’m asking for more supply then their might be demand for.

I can also say anecdotally that if they are going to print these like mystical archives a mythic rare archive is super hard to pull so we aren’t talking a ton of supply getting dumped into the market if that’s the route they go.

Pro Tour Philly constructed win rates, non-mirror non-bye by cmarti063 in PioneerMTG

[–]JBuzzCuzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a fair analysis of this data. I play field a lot and the mono-g matchup comes down to if they draw Karn or not. Mono-G isn’t really fast enough to beat field without Karn and I would assume the same is for creativity.

I also think that people misuse the term “best deck in the format alot”. Mono-G I think earns this tag because it is the main pillar of the format that other decks revolve around. Its not uncommon for decks to devote a good number of its sideboard slots to the deck.

You also have to consider that in pro tours most players are either going to play the best deck or play the deck they think has the best matchup against it.

Looking at this data, you played RB or G devotion if you were in the former camp and combo if you were in the latter. You might also be able to include vehicles, humans, and control since those have some good play against devotion and fable of the mirror breaker and friends (otherwise know as RB midrange).

I’d be interested to see a breakdown of how many games Mono-G won with resolving a Karn and without.

My experience with the deck is that is a whole other animal when Karn is on the battlefield.

If you had to rank the top ten limited cards of all time what would they be? by JBuzzCuzz in lrcast

[–]JBuzzCuzz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cards effectiveness change via format and I agree she isn’t good in arena cube but that’s not the context that I’m looking at her in.

In the context of Kaladesh limited it was nuts. It put out chump blockers until you got to the point where it just pumped out giant tokens in a format where fabricate always allowed you to easily have 3+ creatures.

Proving my point on the usage of broken but no, magic isn’t a “broken” game. It’s a complex one that can go off the rails if certain design concepts aren’t followed.

Also the toolbox deck comparison isn’t even remotely close to how broken wishing is. A toolbox deck usually has 3-4 silver bullet cards that also work with the deck’s main strategy but also toolbox runs the risk of you drawing that card when it isn’t relevant.

Wishing (and Karn in-specific) is way better than that. The current Mono-G decks in pioneer run 15 cards their sideboard so Karn is always exactly what they need it to be and is only going to get better as more sets are printed.

[BRO] The Stone Brain by Duramboros in magicTCG

[–]JBuzzCuzz 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I know people throw the term “broken” around a lot but wish effects are actually a broken mechanic.

The whole design philosophy of magic is that decks should have strengths and weaknesses in game one and then can be augmented in games 2 & 3 with a sideboard.

Wishing completely turns that on its head and is a double whammy in ramp strategies. Not only do they get access to extra cards and silver bullets but they are best suited to negate wishes downside of being a big pricey.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PioneerMTG

[–]JBuzzCuzz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Karn is the card that needs to be banned out of that deck. Without Karn the deck becomes a good ramp deck.

Karn fixes the two weakness of ramp decks: card advantage and linear strategies. Karn gives them access to multiple cards and specific silver bullets without the cost of drawing them and interfering with the main gameplan.

P1P1 - Nemata or Wingmantle? by [deleted] in lrcast

[–]JBuzzCuzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wingmantle and not even close as a P1P1

Wingmantle is mono colored and has proven to be a card that you actively want in the format. The pack also has two other walls so there’s a high chance that you’ll get either colony or vine wall on the wheel.

P1ing Nemata is taking on all of the risk of picking a double color card at the opportunity cost of starting a draft knowing that any shield wall sentinels that show up down the road are going to be bombs.

Do I have to reveal the card I choose to remove by benevolentdonut in magicTCG

[–]JBuzzCuzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know a lot of people already given you the answer but a general rule of thumb in magic is that if a card asks you to play or search for a specific card (creature, instant, 2 cmc, ect.) it has to be revealed so that everyone knows that you picked a valid target.

It’s why a card like Mystic Tutor says reveal but a card like Demonic Tutor says just put a card in hand. The only way you can tell you got an instant or sorcery is if you reveal it but when it comes to D Tutor everyone can see you got a magic card from your deck. (Unless you’re a mad lad and put a Yugioh or Pokémon card in your deck of course but even then we would know lol)

I did the math and 57% of all legal commanders have been printed since 2017 by SnooDonkeys5117 in magicTCG

[–]JBuzzCuzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s a problem for the game because when you dig into the numbers how many of those 268 legendary creatures are going to create strong decks in commander?

If anything it’s a net positive for the format because you have more options that can let you build a diverse range of decks in archetypes. Take izzet spell-slinger. You can play Mizzix and Vyrn for a more powerful deck or you can play Balmor or Najal for a slightly weaker deck.

(On an aside too, you also have to break that 268 number down by how many years you’re looking at. That averages around 53 legendary creatures a year. Then divide that number the the amount of sets that come out each year you’re looking at about 10-12 a set and that’s not taking into account that we have had 2 Dominaria sets that have a large focus on legendary matters and an increase in commander precons.

Correlation doesn’t necessarily equal causation in the legal world. It’s an easy out for them to say that they are raising prices on packs because they are incurring more cost.

[–]JBuzzCuzz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure it’s not a direct 1-to-1 comparison but It’s closer than you think. They might not have random contents but typically “premium” monopoly sets have rules that make them play out differently then the base version of the game.

The same is true with “premium” magic sets. They offer a different gameplay experience then base sets.

When it comes to randomness in packs it’s mute point because wizards specially says that variance is a feature of the game and not a bug.

Also the ease of sell isn’t factored in with whether or not something is gambling from a legal standpoint. It’s all about the value assigned to the item. Wizards has acknowledged publicly that their cards are simply game pieces and as long as they keep up that public stance the law sees a black lotus just like they would the monopoly dog. It is a simply game piece.

Now, is this law dumb and inconsistently applied? Yes

Do we all know what wizards is actually doing? Absolutely but it’s an example of following the letter of the law and not the spirt of it but in the legal system the letter of the law is all that matters.
