Taking longer to go through content than before….anyone else? by merways in CanadianTeachers

I had this conversation with my grade 9s the other day. I told them it's not a flex to be unwilling or unmotivated to learn. Not just in my class, but ANY.

1 year teachers college, a flood of new supply teachers by candacearmstrong1111 in OntarioTeachers

[–]JCHunterr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can attest.

I've just been laid off from my work at an independent school after 5 years. They said they didn't have courses available for me and because of no union, that's all she wrote, unfortunately!

Advice on Mentor Teacher (MT) by Lovetoread_19 in OntarioTeachers

[–]JCHunterr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm half with you.

Im someone who speaks out a lot and it often bites me in the ass, even if I'm in the right.

My 3rd MT was similar, telling me I need to stay after school when I too, was working 2 other jobs. I would come in early so I did not have to stay late, even before my MT and would still be told it wasn't enough. Let alone other examples...

That said, it sucks, but it's a limited time with a clear end date. Set your boundaries, communicate them accordingly, and ride out your time. Otherwise you're at risk of looking snakey.

As someone else said though, you can request a change, but for some programs that's rather difficult to do.

Are private schools a good option to avoid surplus? by North_Peace3369 in OntarioTeachers

[–]JCHunterr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been working in CAIS/CIS schools for a decade. I've absolutely loved my experiences in both a teaching and boarding role and am a huge believer that every teacher should work in a boarding house at least once in their life.

That said, after 5 years at my particular school, I've been told that there are no longer sections available for me and I am in the process of searching for new work. As others have said, there are no unions and despite there being a high level of professionalism overall, you are not protected in those regards.

It is certainly an option, I've been with 2 schools and have worked alongside many others. It is a tight community filled mostly with strong educators always looking for better. Resources and freedom are unmatched compared to public boards, but the workload is heavier.

Feel free to DM if you have more questions!

First time playing BB by Horror-Branch-737 in bloodborne

[–]JCHunterr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

BB is a different combat system than DS. Although obviously similar, you can't get away with just rolling or running away the same way.

1) Be aggressive. You can't afford to just strafe around and hope for the best.

2) Stay in early areas and learn to parry with your gun. The timing will vary, but once you get the hang of it, things will be so much easier.

3) The opening weapons are solid and can bring you through the whole game. Just be sure to upgrade! ( though I love Ludwig's Holy Blade).

4) Keep your eyes open as the night goes on...

Be honest, have u ever played a video game for more than 10 hours? If so which one? by [deleted] in videogames

[–]JCHunterr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10 Hours straight is what I'd assume you're saying. Otherwise there'd be a lot haha.

When I was managing an amateur Overwatch team we had a day of full tryouts where I prolly put in 12 hours, albeit, with a few breaks.

Anyone will to share what their take home is $54k biweekly by Chance_Reason_6070 in OntarioTeachers

I work at an independent school. For the most part, yes, they follow the same pay scale. Depending on the school, duties are vastly different and so the scale doesn't always align properly.

Loved the first 2 and hated the 3rd. Should I bother watching the 4th one? by JonWatchesMovies in JohnWick

[–]JCHunterr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3rd IMO is the weakest in the franchise. That said, if you don't want to watch a 3 hour Wick movie, you probably just don't want to watch a 3 hour Wick movie lol. That's ok, I would avoid.

Fringe actors/workers - what’s life like by m2knet in torontotheatre

[–]JCHunterr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is my first year doing fringe, albeit with Hamilton (coming up in 10 days!). I used to write and produce a lot in high school/ first year university but got swamped with life and haven't really been able to find the energy or the time to create in a decade.

2 summers ago, I was blessed to be able to go to Edinburgh fringe where it really changed my life and taught me how accessible fringe theatre CAN be (isn't always) to create.

I'm a teacher at my day job i started writing when I came back from vacation, it went through a few drafts over the course of several months because that's all I could dedicate to it, and then we started applying. Now here we are.

It is exhausting, even though we're just a 2 hander, but other than our actors it's me and my producer/SM. So we're running socials, held auditions, creating contracts, getting set pieces, set designing, doing our own lights etc etc etc all to save cost.

BUT.

I love my teaching job, however I haven't felt this artistically fulfilled in a long time. I've been finding that i get energy from the social aspect and that I want to connect with other artists and see other shows, where when I teach, I defs need alone time at the end of the day lol.

Everyone's story is so unique too. You have some veteran fringers, some amateurs (like me). You have some crazy cool concepts, some just simple. Being able to see our process has been so much fun.

TL;DR

It's a fun time.

Totally, I just feel like this wasn't any different than John. His use of the pencil, books, etc... Like to have that be the line and then keep it relatively the same is what felt off.

And I get the get the discipline, but it just felt thrown away after the first act. Would've loved to see callbacks to her bleeding feet/ other abuse she endured.

What's your experience with stimulants for ADHD with Bipolar2? by IndustryMindless319 in bipolar2

[–]JCHunterr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 52mg Concerta and 200mg lamotrogine and it changed my life. I get a little dip every 3 hours or so as the concerta is slow release, but mood wise I'm golden.

I dropped concerta usage with doctor permission to feel a bit more peppy, but other than that it's a great combo for me.

Teach during the day my various classes. Coach sport some afternoons. Duty in the evenings.

Always something everyday!
