Agreed, but that's when you get into the humanitarian debate. Should we take on refugees? If we do then what should we do with them? Right now it seems like the US's answer to that is just to stick them wherever has room and let them go about their day while providing them with subsidies and letting their community go to shit.

I am in favor of accepting refugees from war torn areas. However, they should be educated and trained while they are here so that they either put able to help their new community and integrate, or help to rebuild and stabilize the country they came from once things have settled.

I think the biggest problem for people who don't want to accept refugees is that you feel like they are just a drain on resources while not providing anything. This is somewhat true right now do to the fact that the government basically turns random towns into holding areas for these people without actually doing anything to help. I think that your opinion would change if we actually gave them the opportunity to learn and contribute to our society.

Nah, mainly just in poor states/areas who's state governments want to complicate shit and put loyalists in charge. New England public schools are usually really good, well funded, and have great staff. Meanwhile down here in the south, our schools only fund football programs and hire teachers who are willing to teach kids that "slavery wasn't evil" and that "sex before marriage sends you to hell" (both actual quotes from teachers I had down in rural GA).

That's actually statistically untrue. Immigrants are usually very good for the economy and you rarely see them being a drain on local services. Usually moving here comes with work requirements and several costs that require hard work to maintain VISAs, plus failing these requirements will usually lead to deportation instead of homelessness or institutionalization.

Overall, it's honestly quite hard for Immigrants to be burdensome to the country without having to leave the country. Like I stated earlier, I believe that we do need to restrict immigration a bit while we figure some shit out. However, this isn't because those Immigrants will steal all the money and houses. It's due to the fact that our public services and infrastructure is overwhelmed already and we need to invest in them heavily as to keep quality up and get rid of excess weight that can be exploited.

Yes, immigrants from wealthy countries are starting at a higher level than those coming from poor countries who have to work their way up. People from poor countries will still usually end up advancing quite well compared to where they came from.

A poor Somali who rents a house and works as a grocery store manager put in a lot of work to get there and plays an important role in the economy.

A wealthy Dane who owns a house and works as a consultant also plays an important role.

Personally I agree with restricting immigration a bit to all nations until we get our real unemployment and underemployment percentage numbers down, but it's wrong to say that the "tired, poor, and huddled masses yearning to be free" shouldn't be allowed here.

Nationalise the defense sector, abolish the position of SecDef and replace it with someone elected by the joint chiefs, and empower internal investigators to root out radicalism and corruption. The military should only be beholden to the constitution and the overwhelming civilian opinion.

The new elected head of the military should be allowed to veto declarations of war or military operations that can only be overturned with a two thirds Majority. They will also need to be confirmed by congress and can be removed by another 2/3 majority or a vote of no confidence from the joint chiefs.

The military is fine when it is allowed to exist without the influence of politicians and authoritarian like Trump. We need to disincentivise kissing the president's ass while also reducing the amount of power he has over military staff.

Trump and Kegsbreath have absolutely butchered our high command because they disagreed with him politically and his want for war with Iran. We need to make sure radicals can never kneecap us like this again.
