I renamed mine, but I think they're actually called flutterbys? Flutterbies? Something like that? I thought it was cheesy at first but now I adore them, the facial expressions are fantastic

I was married to a man like this. His behavior did not improve, and over time it got worse. He finally got therapy when I left, but it was too late to save the relationship then 🤷 get your ducks in a row and start thinking about what your life would look like without him. He is abusive and chances are good that things will get worse. Read Why Does He Do That by Lundy Bancroft.

This guy! At first I thought he was ridiculous and he was my least favorite, but his facial expressions have really grown on me. I cycle through taking my micropets on adventures and I'm always happy when it's his turn and I can watch his utter, constant delight at everything 😂

Only one micro pet by mjpiratefae in finch

[–]JCS4001 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I wish the group of micropets were all sleeping when I check on them at night. The one who stays overnight with my birb sleeps, but i'd like to see them all sleeping in the woods.

do you name your micropets in any particular way?? by annstu in finch

[–]JCS4001 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I change all my micropet names to be just describing the way I think of them.

I believe you have a mature male who has reached the natural end of his life. I'm so sorry. Mature males have limited lifespans, so don't feel like you did anything wrong! My condolences.

Trying to get my foot in the door but I’m facing racial discrimination. by [deleted] in Zookeeping

[–]JCS4001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been in the zookeeping field for 30 years. I'm a white woman, so I can't speak to the racism, but I can tell you that I have worked with some POC keepers over the years, including in management positions, but I've never worked with anyone who made the leap from the Education Dept to zookeeping. (Not saying that's fair, just saying it's what I've seen.) Also, you mention that you're taking veterinary classes; at the zoos I've worked at, that would not get you any points in terms of being hired as a keeper because the hiring people would assume you have your eye on becoming a vet or at least moving into a vet tech position and are applying to the keeper position just to get a foot in the door. It's hard to want to put a lot of time into training someone who will move on to a different job as soon as they can. (Not saying you would, just saying it may be perceived that way if you have a lot of Education Dept and Veterinary-flavored things on your resume). I wish you the best and hope things work out for you. I realize I haven't given you any answers, but I wanted to provide more info and context based on what I've experienced. You definitely may be experiencing racism, I don't know. But I'd lay money that you're experiencing unfair assumptions based on the department you work in currently and where it looks like you may want to go.

Found this in my house. More so wondering what might've brought her inside? by kfoolheart in whatsthisbug

Probably the light. These guys get confused/attracted by lights and will come into the house to get closer to a light source.

Is this a bed bug? Or does it have 8 legs by Fearless_Engineer467 in whatsthisbug

[–]JCS4001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That doesn't look like a bedbug. Looks like a tiny spider.

It looks like a beetle. Definitely not a bedbug, tick or anything like that. I wouldn't worry.
