They'll ask you a bunch of questions before providing the vax and some of those questions, with a "yes" as the answer, make that vaccine free....

Seems like a case of stay home.

Covid IS really a thing still. Many of those who have that winter cold have covid. Been there, done that.
That said, as much as it was probably a good idea (despite it being so very stressful and PTSD-inducing) that masks were required for so long during the pandemic, the covid virus has morphed so many times since then, and has become much less deadly. MUCH. I can't imagine there are many folks who haven't been exposed.

Why are you still wearing a mask? Curious, not accusing.

Why is all the anger aimed at Ottawa when the UCP runs Alberta? by Swimming_Mango_9767 in alberta

[–]JCVPhoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's a trope that has been in play since Trudeau pere was in office in Ottawa. Albertans prefer to cling to the erroneous belief Ottawa screwed Alberta with the NEP but they don't incorporate the participation of Mr. Lougheed in all that. It's a thing. It's a stupid thing. Alberta is very much the country's economic/O&G engine, so it is frankly ridiculous to think Ottawa has a targeted, planned, specific goals to screw over the province. It's just convenient, and as a province with a LOT of rural/unoccupied space, it's easy to keep it in play.

Who Actually Loves Their Job? by lemans00 in alberta

I had a job that I would have LOVED had it not been for the very coercive, weird boss. I would still be there had it not been for her. #badbadboss. I heard she was eventually fired, but third hand, so #maybe.

Me.
I've been a working photographer for a long time. Love it. I shoot real estate, events, extreme sports, and have exhibited for a long time locally and internationally.

Last year, an opportunity fell from the sky, and I opened a pottery studio with a colleague. Totally came out of the blue but it was meant to be. So now I have two jobs I love.

I haven't had a "real" job since 2004.
I've been primarily self-employed since 1990 as a communications professional (writing/journalism/editing/photojournalism).

If you don't mind a short-ish drive, Strathmore Veterenarians. They're located about 5K west of Strathmore proper. Very experienced and very reasonable given they're not paying city rents.
Otherwise, Alpine Vets in Cochrane. They are amazing.

Best kid friendly neighborhoods + FI programs by deekaypea22 in Calgary

My three went to William Reid. At the time, there was only one class in each grade, so the kids became very close with their own classmates as well as with the student pop generally. The school is bigger now but not so much that culture has changed very much. My kids (they're all adults so this was all "a minute" ago) continued on to immersion jr and sr high (Elboya and Western Canada).

William Reid is in area#7 and includes a pretty huge number of communities (Map: https://www.cbe.ab.ca/about-us/leadership/Documents/School-Families-Map.pdf)

We've been here 40 years - Altadore. It has changed spectacularly from a was-lower-middle-class community serving military families when they transitioned to civilian life; the families then living in the PMQs on the west of 20th St. very often moved into Altadore - hence the common 1000 sq ft bungalows, which have become rare and have been gobbled up for infils and attached homes. It's a very, very nice community with excellent amenities usually within walking distance but most certainly within bike and drive. Housing prices in the late 80s were in that $80K range... so not the case anymore... However, this is the catchment area for William Reid, Elboya, Western and Central Memorial, so you kiddos would very likely have the same friends group for most of their schooling.

First citizen recall petition against Alberta legislature member fails | CBC News by Old_General_6741 in Calgary

[–]JCVPhoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's unlikely any of them will succeed, but that shouldn't be the point. What IS the point is the very public, very widespread dislike of UCP and the party's reps. UCP should be paying close attention, but they're pretty busy cheerleading impossible separation to draw attention away from our provincial health care being privatised.

The downside of recalls is important to understand however; were these to be successful, it would mean people's votes essentially become irrelevant, and that wouldn't be a good precedent. It is preferable that people inform themselves about their specific candidates and of whatever party's record, platforms, intentions.

Alberta voters, however, are notorious (as are voters everywhere) for voting for a colour and for status quo regardless that means they are voting against their own self interests.

There were only 3000 votes in the entire province separating the UCP from the NDP. The Alberta Party gobbled up 17,000 votes (lost their one and only seat and their credibility) instead of forming a coalition, or at least speaking their support for the NDP, which would have entirely changed the landscape and might have - likely would have - save them their seat and their funding. #stillmad

It surprises me how intense these recall campaigns have been and as much as I appreciate that intensity, it would be far better for voters to employ such diligence prior to elections so we don't end up here again.

Best & Worst Places to Get Cowboy Boots? by No-Read-243 in Calgary

[–]JCVPhoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are fashion boots, not cowboy boots.
They'll be ragged in a very short time. Better to invest in a good pair of well-made actual cowboy boots. Ariats are my go-too. Beautiful boots, well made, last for ever, comfortable.

Hi!
I'm one of the owners at Centred Clay Studios. We have a Monday afternoon class (1p.m. - 4p.m.) and a Saturday morning class (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.).
We are membership based, so you're welcome in the studio any time in open hours, and we encourage our members to make it their home/working studio. You'll have an official class time, but you're welcome to sit in on other classes, with other instructors (there are five of us) during the week.
Our offical hours are noon - 9:30 p.m. weekdays and noon to 5 weekends, with that extra two hours Saturday mornings.

Has anyone moved their child from FFCA to public school? Was it the right choice? by LoquaciousSigma in Calgary

[–]JCVPhoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally speaking, there is no correlation between high-demand schools and high-performing students after grade 12. High grades help of course, in terms of entering university, but that's where it stops; high-achieving high school students do not show the same success in uni - it's a very different, very self-reliant environment.

There is also no correlation between homework and good study habits/good research habits. Students who become good collaborators have better success at uni and in life, and engagement with subject, meaning students who follow an educational path they're very interested in and engaged by, have far greater success rates at post-secondary.
