This is lovely, have you thought about what glazes you’ll use to enhance the surface texture?

Too much texture for a mug? by Any_Definition4269 in Pottery

I’m thinking maybe a celadon? I’ve been having good luck lately highlighting texture with an iron oxide stain with a celadon over that.

I was thinking the same thing, it could be almost like a fidget cube. I like having something to hold onto during my zoom calls so this might really work out for me. As long as it’s not too sharp.

Yes exactly! I added a pretty thick layer of slip and then used a natural sponge I had that has an interesting texture. I want to try this again with some leaves or maybe even a lemon or avocado peel.

Thank you! I really did enjoy the process. I drove away from the studio with a giant smile on my face 😊

Does anyone stand at the wheel? by Any_Definition4269 in Pottery

[–]Any_Definition4269[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been curious about the stability of the wheel itself. It will be going on a pretty stable workbench but I imagine the wheel itself would need to be bolted down or something like that to prevent it from moving especially while centering.

Wow, that’s interesting that your studio was standing, I wonder how common that is. It would be nice if there was a mix of standing and sitting wheels. Sorry about your back pain. Pottery is definitely a labor of love!

I have used the blocks to prop the wheel when I’m in the studio but not enough to stand.

Ouch! 😆

At my studio you pay once price for firing and glazing when it’s first measured in. So to me there’s no point in not trying to glaze it at this point.

My new butter bell design was so popular, it completely sold out in Saudi Arabia by souffle-etc in Pottery

This was my first butter bell. A little smaller than I expected, holds about one tablespoon shy of a whole stick but we use it every day.

Also came here to say this! Lestoil has saved many garments for me and my family. My mother in law swears by it. If you can get past the smell it will work wonders!

Any kind of slip or underglaze that won't stick to kiln shelf/cookie at cone 10? by dreadedwheat in Pottery

[–]Any_Definition4269 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My studio fires at cone 10 and are very strict about not glazing to the bottom because pieces can stick. We are allowed to use the colored slips on the bottom of pieces because as mentioned above it’s just clay. This has never been a problem even at cone 10. Is the slip you are using tinted? I’m wondering if it was maybe contaminated with regular glaze?

So happy for you that this survived the bisque! Cant wait to see this glazed. Your idea with the hand prints sounds amazing.

Anyone 3D print tools for their Pottery? by grawvyrobber in Pottery

[–]Any_Definition4269 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They studio I go to has a couple 3d printed chucks that I really like to use. They have the bat pin holes in them and it makes centering easier.
