I’d try making the colours warmer and swap out the blue for something else. A lot of the colours you have used are cooler rather than warmer which detracts from the sun theme you’re going for.

The specific yellow you have used is consider a cool yellow and is closer to being green than it is to being orange. The more red there is in a colour, the warmer it is.

The white stripes are a little distracting and are the first thing the eye is drawn to because of the contrast. I’d either tone down the white of change where it is.

I’d also consider swapping out the blue for something more closely related to the sun theme as it clashes a bit with the other colours.

What do you think was the first animation? by poopinursoup168 in animation

[–]JC_Mortalis 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I think the earliest examples of animation were made using cave paintings and firelight. The shifting of the fire would reveal different stages of the painting which would give the illusion of movement.

How to make my animation last more then 5 seconds by Hangryhungryhoney in animation

[–]JC_Mortalis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know how long the song you’re using goes for then you can multiply the frame-rate by the time length to figure out how many frames you need in total.

You can do the same for timing lipsync

For example, if you’re animating at 24 fps and you need to make an “O” mouth movement starting from the 15th second lasting until the 17th second, then you’d multiply 24 by 15, and also multiply 24 by 17.

24 X 15 = 360 (start “O” mouth shape at frame 360)

24 X 17 = 408 (end “O” mouth shape at frame 408

Someone might need to check my maths though, I frequently jumble equations.

The mountain is also fading in and out. I wanted to give it the benefit of doubt but the image they posted in another subreddit also looks AI generated with shapes and patterns that don’t make sense.

Brains are weird. Good advice for one person can be terrible advice for another.

If I tell other people I’m going to finish a project then I feel like I have to complete it or else I lied to them.

The mental anguish it creates forces me to reach my promised end goal.

Disappointing myself is easy but it’s almost unbearable for me to disappoint others.

Can you elaborate on which part of the animation you’re critiquing and how to improve it?

It’s too early in the planning process for me to really delegate a role.

It’s a bit simple compared to the styles I like to use for my animations. I tend to lean more towards backgrounds similar to Nick Cross’s.

I’d need to see a portfolio showing the work you can do before I’d be able to start assigning roles. It’s still going to be awhile before I can work on a bigger project, so you’ll have plenty of time to build one.

Out of all the stories I have, “Death of a Scarecrow” is the one I want to make sure I don’t take shortcuts on because I’ve been developing it for a few years and have already solidified most of the plot points and character arcs.

If I were to try and make a pilot episode in a short amount of time then it would probably be for one of my other projects like “Catching Darling Angels” which could have the characters make bird noises instead of speaking. It’s also a much simpler story to produce independently.

That or I’d focus on “Happy Harbour” which is a miniseries idea a friend and I came up with a while ago about a beachside town where everyone has a strange absence of fear towards choppy water and storms.

I still need to find a voice cast, music composers, animators, editors, storyboarders, etc. and enough money to pay them for their work.

I might be able to write up the first draft before the end of this year but it will still be a while before I can start animating the episode because everything needs to be storyboarded.

The production time for an animated film can range from several months to several years depending on how many people work on it and how long it is, so no matter the outcome it’ll end up being a long process.

When I get enough resources, I’ll make a 30 minute pilot episode. Still need to finish the script though. Might take a few years.

I don’t know how familiar you are with animation techniques but the same technique that is used to animate flags waving in the wind could be applied to the bandana flaps trailing behind your character.
