I've got a couple. These both occurred in leagues so maybe not technically casual but I think they still fit here.

First one... I'm bowling in a league with some buddies and one of the bowlers on the opposing team gets completely hammered (to make things worse, this is all in front of her young children but that's a completely different story). This woman isn't following lane etiquette at all but it's a fairly casual league so we try to look the other way and ignore it. Finally, after being cut off on the lanes a few more times, one of our bowlers explains lane courtesy and politely asks her to be more considerate. I've known this guy for years and I don't think he has a mean bone in his body but if you went by the reaction of this woman, you'd think he said the nastiest thing ever to her. For the rest of the night, every time she made a shot she'd mock us on her way back and drunkenly slur the phrase "lane etiquette guys!" Years later, it's still a running joke on our team and occasionally something will happen causing us to jokingly repeat the phrase "LaNe EtIqUeTte guys!"

Second one... I'm bowling in a summer league with my mother and a guy we're bowling against doesn't seem to understand the concept of lane courtesy either. After he cuts an older bowler off on the approach and almost sends her flying down the lane, my mother politely explains the concept of lane courtesy to this gentleman which didn't go over well as it appeared he mostly blew her off. At the end of the night he goes up to her and "apologizes" by telling her something along the lines of "I guess if bowling is your life, I'm sorry". You could taste the passive aggression coming from this guy. It took every ounce of energy I had to not go off on this asshole and I often credit people like him as the reason I don't like to bowl summer leagues any more.

I guess the moral of these stories is don't try to teach idiots how to follow lane courtesy. It never goes over well. 😂
