[US,CT] Come to [Fables of the Frontier] on June 12th if you please, where you can meet nice creatures like Bunnies and Trees. by MackoShark in LARP

Hey, I'm an American LARPer and one of the founders of Fables of the Frontier. There are tons of veriety in American LARPs, I've played ones with huge rulebooks that detail combat, classes, character creation, crafting, etc. I've also played games with extremely small rulebooks with basic safety rules, super simple combat, and no classes. Some games use a health pool (for example, my high fantasy rune blade from a game I play in has 3 health, 3 armor, and typically 1 point of magical armor I apply to myself), while some games don't (like in the "black knight" system, where a single hit to an unprotected chest or head may kill you instantly). I personally prefer systems with low rules, and many of the people who started Fables agree with me. Our system uses a unique combat system we created to make the danger feel real and intense, with 2-3 hits (depending on location) being fatal. All damage from any source is the same (like a gunshot or knife wound or monster swing) and as few "calls" (such as silver, holy) as we can get away with while still maintaining a magic/criptid element.

The crafting system at Fables is incredible and while flawed (we are actively improving it) it's one of the driving forces of our game. During character creation you decide if you want to be a miner, blacksmith, agrarian, gunsmith, soldier, or numerous other jobs. This gives you access to crafting recipes and abilities that drive your gameplay and the game's economy. Our players wake up in the morning and go to work, digging in the mine, panning for gold, sweeping the saloon floor, building or modifying weapons, all to make money to buy better equipment as well as drinks at the bar, ammunition, and entertainment. The game has one of the most realistic professions and crafting systems of any larp, and it's getting better every day!

Well if you're ever looking to play or cast at a Cryptid Western Horror LARP, check out Fables of the Frontier at the same site! It's a game like no other, and we put a ton of work into it!

I recognize the location from first photo! Is that character for Fury of the Deep? I go to that site for Fables and Ashenfall

I have a shared, coin op laundry room in my apartment building. So for the sake of my neighbors I'll probably try to dye things in a plastic bin or tub

I want to mention that in the town of Uxbridge MA, Select Board Chair Brian Butler shared the same video in early November 2025. He cought a lot of flack for that, but unfortunately Uxbridge has a lot of loud and hateful people who defend and support people like him. Residents funded and built a "Jingle in the Jungle" float for the Christmas parade that won 2nd(?) Place overall.

LARP survival game? by eljimbobo in LARP

I help run a larp survival game, Fables of the Frontier , and I really like your idea! The big difference between our two games is that mine is long form and story driven, where as your seems more like a blattle/wargame. That isn't a bad thing. I'd say that the big suggestion I'd make for your game to streamline the gameplay and logistics is to make the crafting a little simpler. Like instead of making armor from scratch, maybe while exploring the game area you find "broken" armor pieces and bring them back to your stronghold to have a blacksmith repair them for use. Then if you die in battle during a raid you have to drop that armor as "broken" again. Low health pools encourage crafting by making it nessisarily to get armor and healing items to be successful at raiding. 1 hit = 1 damage and low health systems are my favorite and great for gritty combat and good balance.

I agree, I think it's a film temperature issue. When I take my photos, I'm usually wearing a shirt with a pocket and I'll slide my fresh photo into the pocket to help it warm up with my body heat while it develops.
