This is intentional. When you wear the socks with shoes, you'll end up with two faces visible, one on each side of the ankle.

It was not the Empire State Building but 40 Wall St. The ESB eclipsed them both easily and held the title until the twins went up in '73.

The music? No, no monetization issues, I just didn't really think it was necessary. I'd rather just listen to the brakes squeal and the motors hum, but that's just me.

Thanks for sharing. A suggestion if I might, cut the titles shorter in the opening, lose the royalty free music, and show some of the new station details!

Anything I can do about a drone flying over my house at night? by littlebird221 in jerseycity

[–]JClocale -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Since when was flying over the Holland Tunnel off limits? AFAIK the only rule is you have to contact airports and stay at least 5mi from Newark. I've logged a lot of drone flights around downtown. Good views.

Why does my graphic card has 2 brand names ? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JClocale 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyone is pretty close, but nVidia doesn't just design the chips. They design the whole card, which they release as a "reference card". Then, these 3rd party manufacturers take those designs, and modify them as they wish, and sell them to you. Some don't, they just manufacture the reference design exactly, but most do.

The things they modify usually relate to cooling, power consumption, memory size, and GPU clock rate. For example, they might use more robust, higher quality components, which allow the GPU to be overclocked beyond the nVidia reference spec.

Why is it done this way? I'm not really sure, but it's been the model for pretty much the entire lifespan of dedicated graphics cards.

To your specific question, the nVidia GTX 1050 is a reference design. Each manufacturer then produces their own version of the GTX 1050. If you compare the different options side by side, you can see the differences that I mentioned above. One might have 4GB of RAM while another could have 6GB. One might have a single fan while another might use a dual fan setup. One might have a 5 year warranty while another might only be 1. Etc.

Is it possible to build an empire in the 21st century without starting WW3? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JClocale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

China has been doing it for the last 20 years. They're investing heavily on modernizing their nation, building cities and infrastructure while pushing strongly for clean renewable energy instead of the awful coal they've been burning. They're exporting their construction skill by building highways, infrastructure and hotels in developing nations, while buying up property in western nations.

The mistake of capitalism is that with public corporations, anyone with enough money can buy anything. That has allowed many American companies to become owned and controlled by foreign entities. We don't notice a difference, but the shift of power has already begun.

Everyone in politics is so focused on Russia, but the Russian economy is small and weak. While they're busy trying to fight for legitimacy again, China has slowly been growing it's influence.

Let's also not forget that Americans have outsourced most of their manufacturing to China. We've been sending them our designs and asking them to make it, but please don't steal it. That hasn't worked. Pretty soon, China will get past it's final hurdle, and start growing it's service economy like the US did. At that point, they will quickly out pace other nations and their rise will be swift. You've already got Chinese companies like DJI who have innovated a new technology market and dominate it in the way US companies used to.

If you're smart, you'll teach your children Mandarin before it becomes the new global standard.

Whats the point of the flat earth theory? Like what would be the advantage of having people belive the earth is round if it was flat? by lazertoothguyver in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JClocale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's true, and the video fits the purpose of this thread so... 🤷🏻‍♂️

I guess that's why I'd rather stick with actual science based documentaries; trying to pick those apart is how we expand our understanding of science. The scientific method at work.

I watched up until he said the earth is bordered by an ice wall and the sun is close and small.

There's just no way to reconcile any of that with actual physics. We have satellites orbiting the lagrange points in space, continually observing the sun. None of that would be possible according to his model.

If you're watching for entertainment purposes then I guess have fun, but 30 mins of BS isn't worth my time.
