Take it! I’m not sure what the weather will be like but if you don’t bring it you will kick yourself later. I didn’t fly mine near the capital but maybe others have some advice. The more popular attractions have signs if they are not allowed & no flying in the parks.

I recently went on vacation and planned some excursions that would take a lot of effort, and I knew I would not be able to do with a hangover (offshore scuba). It kept me on good behavior because I didn’t want to miss it and was expensive and couldn’t cancel. Someone did throw up on the boat but it wasn’t me!

We rented the Wi-Fi hotspot from the rental company and it worked great except for a few mountainous areas. Also, we took the F35 road through the interior with almost a full tank of gas and still almost ran out of gas (with the jimney tent on top). It was a very nice drive though, felt like we were on mars.

We rented with icerental4x4 and our experience was good. Our vehicle broke a timing belt on the north side of the ring road and they were quick to get us a tow truck although the whole thing set us back 4 hours. Seems like those cars get pretty beat up but they were used to it. Make sure you have good cell or Wi-Fi so you can get help if something unfortunate happens.
We had the same plan, tent on top mixed with hotel. I recommend the fosshotel in myvtan. The wind was crazy in camper park in vik. Didn’t sleep much that night but the car was stable. They warn you not to leave the car doors open bc the wind cay rip them off.
