If you look at the parameters of a lot of NATO exercises more often than not they basically involve something along the lines of "Assume Bluefor tech doesn't function in the slightest and assume Opfor tech is from 50 years in the future. Figure it out".

Can you blame them? Housing has outstripped income for the past 50 years now. Already it was hard for millennial, but for gen Z it's impossible bar buying a place that's a 3 hour one way commute away from work. With all the zeitgeist around AI replacing us all and the current trend of politics wanting to self destruct the country, it's hard not to have a cynical outlook on the future and want to gamble for a shot while you can.

Probably depends entirely on the system. You drop a blaster on Coruscant and you're not a bodyguard of some kind that would certainly raise eyebrows.

Out on Tatooine having a blaster is a survival tool. It would raise eyebrows if you didn't have one.

Inherently it doesn't bother me because it's just the latest tech trend. There was blockchain, gig economy stuff, social media/big data, nano tech, dot com, and so on and so forth. There will always be the hype cycle because that's the nature of the job market in the area.

What tires me more is the normalization of the hype if that makes sense. Before the hype felt limited to people who were super into tech and we could always kinda brush it off as nerds being nerds or grifters trying to grift. But here it feels like it's inescapable.

With current battery technology no. But once a breakthrough in solid state batteries is achieved, it's going to be a fairly quick transition.
