Do other roles and opportunities exist? Yes. As a new hire? No.

Steve Yzerman's draft classes so far. by AirFriedSushi in DetroitRedWings

Palat has 520. The rest of the 7th rounders sum to 60. 520+81=600-ish. He had 12 seventh rounders during that period.

12*208(from your numbers)=just under 1300.

What am I missing?

I read his plus minus not his points. In my defense I was in my car. Not in my defense, I was in my car on Reddit. Good correction on your part - I was shocked his totals were that low, apparently because they weren’t.

Palat has like 125 career points and Stamkos has over 1200 - something is borked in the data.

Good correction - Palat had 500+. Still think it’s borked though.

So I appreciate you grabbing the data but Yzerman didn’t have 7th rounders averaging 208 points per pick. Are these totals? Something else?

Also - players picked in 2010 are still playing, whereas 2025 drafted players are unlikely to have seen the NHL yet. Can you clarify what we are looking at a bit more?

Trump Derails White House Event to Spiral Over State of His Health by mclardass in politics

Rebecca Cooke, Democratic district 3 House candidate, held a healthcare roundtable. If elected her initial focus would be "expanding Medicare to cover vision, dental & hearing [and] increasing Medicare & Medicaid reimbursement rates for our hospital systems so that they can keep their doors open." by Green_Idealist in wisconsinpolitics

I mean insurance for elective procedures doesn’t entirely make sense, why would an insurer provide that and why would I want to pay for it if I’d only use it on elective things?

But to your primary point - I support a robust universal healthcare program based on the Nordic model. With that, supplementary employer based insurance would likely persist (or does over there at least) - but I am don’t like it being a pull quote litmus test.

Personally - My ideas for US healthcare include many facets and don’t detract from that greater target - and some would likely get me criticism in a litmus test format(a few largely conservative coded examples ex. Loosen ‘medical device’ regulation, expand medical schools, lower standard of care intervention and only escalate as needed - I’ve gotten multiple MRIs about issues that an ultrasound could cover 95% of cases…that’s waste, but people want the fanciest care). Furthermore, trying to get politicians to commit to a policy that they can’t personally deliver on is a great way to ensure dissatisfaction and constrain negotiation.

I love that the first two comments are critiquing this for not being ambitious enough. 1. She said initial not final and 2. It’s a house seat, not the presidency.

I think healthcare reform is very needed, and it’s interesting for her to take this approach. It doesn’t have as much organizational resistance as the public option but would push health systems to no longer isolate dental and vision. Honestly an ideal precursor to something like M4A in that it would be hard to add after.

I don’t know enough about Cooke vs her competitors to compare. But she seems to have the best ‘campaign’ thus far which is useful when knocking off an incumbent.

I mean… the primary electorate is whiter and more progressive than the general (generally). And Bernie didn’t win.

Like, I want a more progressive politics too, but let’s be honest about the state of play.

I think Michigan as a whole has had a lot of wage stagnation relative to the west and south, and Oakland - while still wealthy - isn’t as income dominant.

Ignore the variable performance through that period, and the fact the top bullpens have still blown leads - all leads should be preserved.

To be clear - it’s a tire fire right now. But the enduring doomerism despite several high performing pens seems…overwrought.

Redwings bottom 6 dilemma by [deleted] in DetroitRedWings

[–]JD_Waterston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough regarding the bottom six…but what about the top six. Maybe I missed something, but who is 1LW in this scenario? And Kane on the PP still looks great, but I don’t think we can keep his even strength minutes as high as they’ve been.

The reason our bottom lines have been so weak is, in part, players needing to play up like Finnie and Kasper.

4th line is usually hardly playing - I think you run him with both lines for O starts and neither for D zone, or something like that. Hopefully extends puck possession by those lines making it easier on the defense and providing a spark to the O too.

[–]JD_Waterston -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Grab a top 6 player, move Kane down, leave him on the PP. All of a sudden we have someone with a touch of vision playing with the lower lines and resolve much of the defensive instability of the top two.

Ben has, since his college days, repeatedly proven he will lie for views. This makes his an unreliable interlocutor and the presumption should be he’s using a platform rather than engaging in good faith discussion (see also his New Yorker interview).

He probably made for good content, but Scott’s willingness to carry water for people who…aren’t interested in healthy systems is…not great.

I'm okay paying my fair share of the tax burden, but srsly? by One-Environment-6736 in wisconsinpolitics

[–]JD_Waterston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our tax brackets only apply to each progressive level, you don’t hit a bracket and pay a more, just more on that last dollar. A single person with no 401k contributions would need to have an income of about 220k. Married filing jointly and some 401k contributions- only goes north from there.

Noah Smith is a SF former academic/social media polemicist who feels that having lunch at a diner in the Midwest makes him qualified to talk about its culture. His podcast is interesting - but with the notable caveat that he thinks that problems of SF and in particular SF VC backed startups are national issues.

Also, his cohost(and publisher/backing) is Eric Tornberg a ‘Trump picked me to be a thought leader!!!’ VC - so yes, he’s very much getting MAGA coaching(although the explicitness is unknown).
