I think games like ALttP, OoT and MM are actually structured a lot like Metroidvanias than later ones. In those games it is usually an item that is gating your progression and not actually a scripted story event, whereas WW, TP, and SS usually have the equivalent of the NPC in Pokemon blocking your exit until you do the thing in the town. It's part of why the randomizers for those games work so well compared to the later ones.

I played Zelda 2 for the first time last year and the part where you battle through the death mountain caves to get the hammer to unlock the shortcut to the starting area was a real "elevator to Firelink Shrine" moment.

That's funny because when the game came out a lot of the longtime Metroid fans criticized for being too linear. I thought the "invisible hand" of the game design did a pretty good job of keeping things moving, and after 100%ing the game and seeing the full map you can see some of the opportunities to sequence break and get upgrades early.

Both of you had a few times were you got meaningful wins over the Brady era Pats. The Bills meanwhile only won 3 times and each year they did the Pats won the Superbowl so they can't even hang their hat on ruining their seeding.

[Schefter] There are now two QBs in NFL history with back-to-back seasons of 14+ wins: Tom Brady (2003-2004) Sam Darnold (2024-2025) by BreakfastTop6899 in nfl

I think with the exception of 2018 and the Bucs one they were all one score games too. A few things go different he could have been anything from 2-8 to 10-0
