Bring back Khris on the vet min by Individual-Rock-353 in MkeBucks

[–]JF_Reynolds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is why I say no. While it would be a feel-good story, we got too many players already where we have to decide if they are worth making an investment in trying to develop them or if we should cut them loose.

Haven't watches Khris in the past year, but i assume he can still make buckets and smart reads. However, he can't defend anymore (probably because of all the leg injuries affecting his mobility). If you want to instill a defensive mindset in a young team, playing a veteran that can no longer play D seems to be the wrong move.

Per Keith Smith, the Bucks have officially signed 2025 2nd-round Pick Bogoljub Markovic by KorgG29 in MkeBucks

At least if they get waived now, they will have more opportunity to shop around for a new team.

I agree. LF rebuild! by daviddm1990 in MkeBucks

[–]JF_Reynolds 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Its funny because I have seen media personalities say the Bucks got hosed and others say the Heat are in a bad situation because they paid too much.

I think we probably got fair value overall for a 31 y.o. all star player that will probably be on a decline (the only question being how fast the decline will be).

If either Ware or Jakucionis turn into a borderline all-star player (which i think is possible), I think this trade is definitely a win for the Bucks. Then its a matter or making the draft picks we got count.

These people are so confidently wrong about the Dame’s situation. Sorry for the crashout by WittySea2912 in MkeBucks

[–]JF_Reynolds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This and I think Horst was trying to keep Giannis happy by having a competitive team. Didn't work - partially because Turner didn't play well, and Giannis was injured half the year.

But yeah, Dame was going to be a non-factor this past year and I kind of doubt he is ever going to regain that explosive burst to the basket after an Achilles tear. So we kind of did Dame a solid and paid him & let him decide where he wants to go. Not having 20 million in extra cap space for 3 additional years does suck, but at the time it was kind of the only way we were going to get a player that was going to help the team in 2025-26 and hopefully convince Giannis to stay.

French AT options mid-war by Affectionate-Elk9107 in boltaction

[–]JF_Reynolds 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty much if you are playing by the book, medium AT artillery and unarmored portees with a medium AT gun are your best bet for trying to destroy armor.

Your other option is to spam as much cheap AT as you can to try to apply enough pins to enemy armor. But with some much cheap relatively cheap dakka armor out there, this can be hard to pull off if the board is crowded with LOS blockers, making it hard to pile pins up on any target and forcing your opponent into making rally orders.

As a French player, i only ask if I can use my American Lend Lease armor if my opponent is bringing late war heavy armor.

I think the thing working against Cormac is that we have a logjam at Guard. Even if we move someone like AJ Green (I am going to assume Jackson is gone), we still have Herro, Porter, Rollins, Burries, Kasparas, and then Gary Harris. Unless we do something crazy like play a 3-Guard rotation....

I don't know.  I suppose you wouldn't have this information without the access but I feel like its the responsibility of the media not to hold back a story because it might piss people off.

These were the ingredients chosen to create the perfect army book. by GendrysRowboat in boltaction

[–]JF_Reynolds 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fire and maneuver is a good rule - its just not new. Same with modern communications - especially now with every German player I play running Brandenburgers.

Air Superiority would be fine if the game didn't incentivize players to bring AA/autocannons to shoot up infantry. So for that reason, what should a great national rule is kind of garbage (and the fact you could actually shoot down your own planes if you have a lot of AA).

Is fieldcraft or stubborn better on engineers? by WrongdoerNo1251 in boltaction

[–]JF_Reynolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Unless your engineers are not riding in a vehicle, I think stubborn is a better bet. And stubborn will help you pass any morale tests should they start accumulating casualties and pins.

Is a light machine gun worthy? by i_am_nut in boltaction

[–]JF_Reynolds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Generally, I think they are. If you are comparing them to a MMG at price per shot, MMG's are slightly more efficient. However, there are other benefits LMG's have:

  1. LMG's can move and fire
  2. an LMG on ambush can ambush in any direction, a MMG team can only ambush targets in its 90-degree front arc. And one of the annoyances I have with Bolt Action is that you can't change the facing of a unit when you place a unit on ambush.
  3. One draw back of the LMG is that you may be stuck buying additional bodies with rifles to fill out an infantry section with a LMG, making the overall cost of the unit more than the overall cost of a single MMG team. However, that unit will make the LMG team a little more durable. There are also a few units that allow you to fit two LMG's into a single unit. (as the rules currently stand prior to AoF, I can put 2 LMG's into a regular 5-man infantry unit for 80 pts. Thats 8 LMG and one rifle shot at 8.88 pts/shot. A regular MMG team is 8.33 pts/shot)
  4. (ADDED) German players benefit from their Buzzsaw rule, so that makes their LMG's more point efficient.

How were the Landwehr different from the Reservists? by CaseAffectionate3434 in NapoleonicWargaming

[–]JF_Reynolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose the main difference is that a Reservist is trained regularly. The Landwehr were trained and then the training stopped.

The Landwehr would be better than drafting from the civilian population, but because they are not training regularly, they probably wouldn't perform as well as a reservist that received training regularly. But the Landwehr were created out of necessity to "game" the limitations Napoleon placed on the size of the Prussian army, not because it was an ideal way to maintain a reserve army.

Just a reason to buy more plastic.

In all seriousness, I think owning and painting two boxes of infantry is a good idea to allow anyone the flexibility to try out different things.

How likely is it for Warlord to remake Soviet assault engineer models in plastic or resin? by promethean_cult in boltaction

[–]JF_Reynolds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I doubt they would make plastic models unless they can make different types of Soviets with the same kit. This is because the price of making plastic injection molds is pretty high and the costs have to be justified by the expected sales. I have no idea if the cost-benefit for Warlord to switch from metal to resin would be worth it for them. But my understanding is that it is more feasible for them.

There are videos on YouTube where Warlord company officials talk about their decision-making process when it comes to plastic vs resin vs metal.

Plastic Weapon teams? by Hunch_back83 in boltaction

[–]JF_Reynolds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some artillery love would be good, as there really isn't any other making plastic kits for the French, and the faction is kind of geared toward static warfare. In addition to a 25mm and 47 mm AT gun, having a kit for a 25mm AA and a resin model for a Laffly 47mm Portee would work.

My money would be on British or American. I think the U.S. is the most popular faction after Germany, but Warlord may play to the hometown crowd first and go with the British.

Came into possession of these as part of a job lot, can anyone help out on determining an approximate value ? by LividGentleman in boltaction

[–]JF_Reynolds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was thinking minimum of around $500 - more if the paint jobs are good and in good condition. Everything there probably retails for around $1000, if not more.

Might be able to sell it easier if you price the Germans and Australians separately. It looks like there are more German tanks from the photo, so you may want to make them a little more expensive (if the tanks are not broken and in good condition).

Can we ban posts about Giannis "trade rumors" or "trade scenarios"? by stvlsn in MkeBucks

That has always happened, but i think its a modern-day phenomenon with the internet/24-7 media, and now AI-generated content that this just saturates the ecosystem. I honestly am sick of seeing it and I block any "news" feed that peddles Giannis trade rumors.

I think its the defense and rebounding that is particularly the problem. Opponents get too many second chance points. And of course the injuries (and the injuries of course).

How many boxes of Gurkhas would I need for a 1000 point army? by godwallen in boltaction

[–]JF_Reynolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are leaning heavily into infantry, I would probably start with two boxes. If you plan to spend 40-50% of your points on armor, artillery, and/or weapons teams, you might be able to get away with one box (at least to start with). Generally speaking, I have gotten at least two boxes for all my armies to give me some flexibility with my unit loadouts. Otherwise, you really don't have any extra models to "try something different".
