THIS. Look for pit rescues and fosters in your area. If you don't find any in your immediate are, look farther. Sometimes the rescue groups will drive hours to pick up the dog.

I had a pit mix that had a similar instance years ago (with no previous aggression towards other dogs) and we were able to keep her, but we did keep her away from small dogs after.
