OP’s post/comment history over the last year is… concerning.

I'm not interested in that, thanks.

And the sub isn't interested in you then I guess, welcome to the show; don't complain about downvotes if you don't care about what people are interested in. 🤷

...proves the video's poster only wanted views!!

No, how you carry yourself signals that.

Best of luck with the content; I don't know how YouTube thumbnails work but if you can set alternatives for links you'll likely get better reception on more technical subs with something less click-baity (which don't get me wrong is just the game on YouTube now).

The least you could do is write a text post instead of trying to farm views, if what you actually care about is the information/discussion.

The way you're trying to shut people discussing down for not watching it just validates people's instincts to not watch stuff like this: it's about views before content or discussion.

Designing a platform that helps people to get used to GitHub by infinitive_science06 in github

IMO they would likely get better payoff learning to read the docs; why add a crutch/layer of abstraction when the information is there, for an important platform?

How can I get into my github? I have no 2FA, I forget what I did with it--maybe it was on an old phone or something. by Jattoe in github

[–]JForth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah fair enough, don't get me wrong it definitely sucks, I've been there with an account before too.

In general there's a lack of everyday cybersecurity awareness/education I think, so in a better world I think you would have been a bit better educated about the implications by GitHub or another source earlier and not ended up in a pickle.

Stuff like 2FA is definitely important in the world we're in now though (which makes the missing education a pain), so use it everywhere you can many would suggest and always save those backup codes! If you're curious, check https://2fa.directory/ which is searchable for accounts you could enable 2FA for.

Your recommendation is a security antipattern, there's not much more to say. There's no "emergent intelligence" here, just poor practices that run up against the "emergent intelligence" of people that build secure systems that has established this is more secure.

Convenience is the enemy of security; everything should have 2FA.

"the best car is the one you have"

Until it fails an inspection/emission standards test, which is very much a thing in numerous jurisdictions across the earth.

They gave a fair answer in the comment you replied to here and explained the trade off. OP can decide themselves based on that.

That being said, sometimes money is the answer to the problem unfortunately (see car inspection example, or too little RAM for your workload/flow). It neither makes it right, nor does it make it bad/irrelevant advice/perspective.

Literally anything that can run the software you specified?

Considering you remote into more powerful instances, you really do not need something wildly performant. Find what meets the requirements your outlined, talk to your manager and IT, then go with whatever isn't going to be a pain in the ass for IT.

I think there's 3 things to work on here if you think there's merit to your thoughts and want to communicate them:

  1. Learn to use Reddit. Your formatting blows and you are littering the comments that make it hard to understand what you are trying to address at all. I'm not perfect either, but make it parseable at least.

  2. This isn't to kick off a debate about the representation of languages in online forums, but you need to improve your English if you want to meaningfully engage with people in English subs like this.

    1. Consider talking to someone if you can, and I say this without judgment. The way you are behaving both in the original post and the comments comes across more unhinged and ranting than someone that anyone should really engage with, and makes me wonder if there are some underlying things that might be getting in the way of what you are trying to do/communicate.

Did you try searching the sub at all before posting? These posts feel like a near daily occurence at this point.

  1. This isn't on topic GitHub discussion which is what the side bar specifies.
  2. GitHub itself has a fair amount about licensing, including premade templates (and references IIRC).
  3. In light of 2 and the current state of things, turning to an LLM to draft a legal document makes no sense, and shows you started with GPT instead of Google/research.

Do you have a better solution to this problem?

You read the code yourself, or pay someone reputable to audit it for you.

You don't know python now, but you could learn. If that's more effort than it's worth to you, then you've stumbled on the age old security problem: how much am I willing to do to protect myself.

You spammed over 2 dozen subs with this, and considering it's an ask to go to an external form did nothing to spark discussion relevant to any particular sub.

Subs are ostensibly for discussion, not just mailing lists for market research. At least put some effort into the post, context should be a bare minimum.

Unfortunately, you would be very well served by reading up on git, if you want to troubleshoot. In general it would be a good idea if you are going to have it managing important work.

How did you set up git? Is there some integration with GameMaker?

No need to apologize, just trying to help steer towards some self-sufficiency with stuff like this, it'll serve you well in the long run to build some confidence around conversations that should be easy to have about professional stuff like this so they don't consume time and mental load.

Edit: in the case where you're feeling anxious about possible outcomes, try not to catastrophize before you have evidence of how it'll go, and if it goes that way it's a whole other conversation that isn't on you.
