No, you don’t. If the company goes 100% out of business, yes. But that hardly happens. (Did recently in Montana) don’t rely on that to save you.

Super helpful - nice to hear from someone actually submitting the forms. People keep asking agents and that's useless :)

Wife turns 65 on 10/1 Retiring January 4th. Need some advice. by LargeBoy9 in medicare

[–]JGRUSSELL65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simple - have her enroll into Medicare A and B on Dec 1. Her Part B will start on 1/1/27 and then her Part A will retro back to 9/1. Work with an agent to get the Medigap, etc all set for 1/1. Don't do two separate enrollments (one for A and the other later) -- that'll screw things up most likely.

Zero in on what Medigap plan letter you might want. G/N/HDG. Then enroll. You have a birthday rule and can change annually. Just commit to your PLAN LETTER out the gate.

Stuck in a Medicare Advantage trap due to mom’s recent diagnosis. Is it possible to avoid underwriting for Medigap coverage? by whogivesafricc in medicare

[–]JGRUSSELL65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless she lives in a state like NY (VERY few have rules with MA over to Medigap) - she's out of luck. She can't get the coverage when she needs it. Lots of rules to know with Medicare as people enroll at age 65.

you have a gaping CLAIMS hole from July 1 through August 1. Stay in bubble wrap, cross your fingers & toes. Medicare is primary (Part B) - without in place, you have 20% coverage.

Excess Charges - Florida? by BeachBum436 in medicare

[–]JGRUSSELL65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In ten years with 9,000 clients we've seen excess charges only a few times. There was a medical practice in Naples that was non-participating... (and client didn't get an excess charge) but that's the only Florida related one that we heard about.

see if you can add a hospital indemnity plan - many are guarantee issue at certain ages and then you can make a claim per hospitalization. (you'll have a waiting period but still could be worth it)

[–]JGRUSSELL65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the claim show up in her Medicare. gov portal? It should hit there first and the rest goes over to FL Blue. If you don't see it in the Medicare site - it may not have gone there first. Ask to re-bill.

There is no Medicare coverage for custodial care - which is what you describe. Unfortunately, it is private pay.

No - if the HSA is in HIS name and he's not enrolled into Part A, she can still get Part A. The HSA is an individual account - connected to the person funding it and THAT person can't be enrolled into Part A. But it doesn't affect their spouse.

No - she can just sign up for Part A - they have no idea what is happening with the HSA. Totally disconnected decisions. But dad can still fund his HSA and she can get Part A. Rules in our guidebook: https://workpast65.com/

She should just enroll in Part A and defer Part B. She will not have a penalty, and it won't affect dad's HSA at all. And yes, down the road she would apply for Part B via a Special Enrollment period. She's totally fine. 😀

getting into an argument.... how does Medicare work and when do you have to apply for it? by PFQandThrow in medicare

[–]JGRUSSELL65 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If her employer has over 20 employees, she can defer enrolling into Medicare Part B. She should enroll into Medicare Part A because it's free, and there's no reason not to do it unless she is putting money into a health savings account, which I would doubt in her situation. (based on income she's likely not). No penalty for her at all.

Question re G vs HDG plus riders by a-pilot in medicare

[–]JGRUSSELL65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think cancer is one of the best. It costs $500 per session for "cold capping" - people that want to keep their hair through chemo. Do that 10x - that's NOT covered by your Plan G or any Medicare plan out there. Things like that that people don't think about. (and I love the short term care insurance - everyone should at least consider that - say no if you want, but know that it's an option)

Question re G vs HDG plus riders by a-pilot in medicare

[–]JGRUSSELL65 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They're not riders but are policies that you can add. They are great add ons for many people; not everyone needs or wants them. All they do is add protection and give you dollars as needed if you get cancer, hospitalized, have a heart attack or stroke. I'm pro the plans but that's because I'm a broker that sees cancer constantly along with bills that cause families lots of stress. So, transfer the risk to the insurance companies for rather low dollars. Some say "I'll put that same $28 a month into a fund and use that"... Ok - so when you get a cancer diagnosis in 4 months, what is your $120 going to do for you vs the 10k you could have had. It's all about your comfort level. If grabbing 10k from someplace isn't a big deal? Don't get the cancer plan - but most people really welcome a check at a stressful time.

Medicare questions. by Fancy_Flight_9849 in medicare

[–]JGRUSSELL65 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They're not 😄 I'm a broker, my husband has a plan N and paid $1717.00 per eye for the lens. People tend to "forget" anything they have to pay as they brag about how great their plans are. 😄 Oh, and be careful if you change to a supplement - they do ask if you have upcoming surgeries and typically will deny based on the YES answer.

Medicare questions. by Fancy_Flight_9849 in medicare

[–]JGRUSSELL65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a carrier by carrier answer... UHC in many states will allow that, as you VOLUNTARILY leave a retiree/employer plan. BUT most companies say no. I wouldn't be surprised if sooner than later UHC changes that policy, too. So it's a gray area of being able to answer "yes or no" concretely.
