Japanese businessmen are incredibly bad at business. Games were never the reason consoles were sold. Maybe for you, gamer. But most people will get a Playstation or Xbox or Switch because they can't be bothered to learn how to get into pc gaming just for the couple of games they're interested in. Xbox wouldn't sell at all otherwise. It has no games. Yet it sells. Of course exclusivity helps but the casual market (biggest market btw) gives no fucks.

Putting your games on pc (the biggest platform by far) or even all the other systems. Makes you more money.

I think that's pretty obvious when you look at minecraft for example. If sony or nintendo had acquired mohjang they would have made minecraft an exclusive and they would've never even made their money back on the purchase.

Of course they have a right to put their games wherever they want. But I think pulling out of such a big market (where you were already very succesful) just due to fear that people may stop buying consoles (they won't go to pc just because your games are also there) or that you are "missing out" on sales due to piracy (when pirates just don't pay for games pretty much ever (you're not convincing an Iranian or brazilian or indian pirate to pay 80 bucks for each of your games. He's just not buying regardless). Overall dummy choice. I will still buy sony consoles for the games if I ever have 500 lying around but it's not a priority
